| I started painting a photograph my best friend sent me from when his sailboat was docked in Cape Cod over the winter. He lived in it year round while stationed there with the Coast Guard. Here's the photo by John Horansy. I am painting it on a 16 x 20 canvas board and am using Open Acrylics to start and then will use some WS oils over parts of it. Right now my palette is zinc and titanium white, cobalt blue and Paynes gray. I did the initial sketch with pastel pencils and used a grid to enlarge the picture and for prospective on the many angles and curves of the boat. I also used masking fluid on the masts before working on the sky. Here's what the sketch with the grid looks like. Judy | |

| Judy I hate to interfere and you can tell me to go away but, the bow of the boat is dead straight. Sorry Jack | |

| Here is the latest. I talked to John about the and he helped me with the bow which does have a flare from either side of it. It is difficult to distinguish because of the angle of the picture. I did mostly background stuff but will be working on details of the boat as O feel the background stuff is satisfactory. Judy | |

| Nice sky. Judy - Will there be some more variety in the trees? height? size? Spacing? I just watched a video emphasizing the need to create distinct variety in these aspects. http://www.cyberartlearning.com/ | |

| Thanks Janet and Dale, thanks for the link. He brings up some good points. I still have some work on the upper trees which are actually coming up from the slope of the hill. I'll keep some of his suggestions in mind to add more variety without drawing too much attention away from the sailboat.
It is hard to see in the photo, but there are actually three colors used in the trees, burnt sienna, raw umber and a green that is darkened with raw umber, so there is a variation in color although subdued since it is winter colors in the trees.

| Finally got the time to do some more work. Angled the windows in the pilot house, made containers in front of the galley, detailed the canvas covers on the sails, got one mast in and a wire. Judy | |
