| I had painted a study of this image, in the fall of 2010. Here's the link to the study: https://watersolubleoils.forumotion.com/t554-sant-allessio-terraceA couple of days ago, I felt like tackling the 'full size' version, which measures 24" x 36". Here are a couple of photo snapshots of it. The lighting is pretty poor, due to the photos being taken in failing afternoon light both days. So, I've kind of boosted the light levels in these snapshots to compensate. In progress 1: In progress 2: | |

| Looking good. The second time around always gives you the chance to correct mistakes or re-think how you did things before, although I think the original study was very enticing.

| More definition of the exterior walls in the foreground. I am learning more about working wet-on-wet, great practise for me. | |

| It's really coming together. I love the colors and what you have done most recently on the right.

| Thanks for your positive comments.
This is my second "large" painting, at 24" x 36". I find it such a change from working small, even in just mixing the paint. But it is fun working larger, and I'm looking forward to having more time to continue this one. Maybe this weekend.

| Life has been hectic lately. I had a few hours on the weekend to get a little further with this one. I darkened the building fronts in the left midground and added dioxazine purple. I added some secondary colours to the palm fronds in the centre background. Then the buzzer went off, and time was up. The next session will probably involve reinforcing the safety railings on the buildings on the right, and working on roofs throughout the community. A roofer's day is a long one! | |

| Thanks for your comments. While I get impatient at my progress on this painting sometimes, on the other hand, I appreciate having the time to stare at it over and over. I keep trying to see it fresh, and not as a painting that has been on my easel for a month or two. Maybe I will get back to it again this weekend. | |

| Lovely painting, can almost feel the warmth from the sun reflecting off the buildings. When you did your rough sketch, did you use wso's for that too? | |

| Thanks katmanuel and Judy.
I used WSO for the base layer. I painted with mixed colour and some thinner. Then I ended up scrubbing a lot of the paint off, as I was not pleased with the hue. That was interesting, as it gave me colour coverage, but in pale tones. Ah, experimenting:)
I am learning how to work big. That is probably the most valuable lesson in this painting. Strong colour saturation, with big acreage to cover. I need to develop my brush stroke technique, so the strokes themselves represent something, not just plunking paint on the canvas, ha ha
