| Someone on the Wet Canvas forum suggested I check out the W/S Oil people here. I am learning to paint via Public Television shows like Bob Ross and Jerry Yarnell. It looks like I need to learn the most about colors, so I'm checking out those forums here. Thanks for sharing.

| Welcome Kay. Finally someone else from Arizona. I'm jealous, though, because here in Tucson they do not have any art shows on PBS. I usually have to get my fill of them when I'm in upstate NY for the summer. Bob Ross was my first and only teacher for oils and I learned so much from him. Then I moved to WS oils when I realized the regular oils were bothering my asthma. Jerry Yarnell has since become my favorite because he teaches so much more. If you would like to see an overview of what is available in the forum and how it is organized, you can see a copy our first newsletter from January which talks abou teach section. Here's the link. https://watersolubleoils.forumotion.com/general-chat-f4/forum-news-and-announcements-t140.htmI look forward to seeing some of your work and sharing ideas and questions with you. Judy Hi Judy, Thanks for the link. Actually Jerry Yarnell is on the half hour before Bob Ross, so I started watching him too. That's sort of why W/S Oils caught my eye. I do love YouTube for all sort of art instruction too. I think I'm having more fun trying to "keep up" with the Bob Ross style. It forces me to NOT be critical and to just try to put the paint on canvas the way he says. I would like to some day (and I'm going to soon) take those fast painting skills on location at a nice spot in Greer (ever been?) and see if I can paint a landscape Plein Air in an hour or two. I figure trying to paint something in 1/2 hour along with TV episodes is good training. Check out GREER if you have not already. That's one of my web sites. I know more about being online than I do about painting, but I'm trying to put it all together. Look forward to exploring further, and thanks again for the help. | |

| Hi Kay! Welcome to the forum! I really like the Jerry Yarnell series. I haven't seen any episodes with water soluble oils yet but even his instructions for acrylics can be very useful for water soluble oils. YouTube is a great resource! I checked out your site and painting blog. They're both very well done. Love your paintings! | |

Janet, THANKS ! I should clarify (connect) my statements about my experience with W/S oils. I was directed here by someone who saw my blog and stated that if I was really going to do 390 paintings in Bob Ross style, I should look into W/S .. I think he was thinking for the cost$ of it all. That being said, when I came to this forum and started to read, I realized that this might be a way to apply some of the stuff I learn from jerry's program too. I don't think I've ever seen him use W/S oils. THIS forum and the note from the original person (woolf) was my first introduction to a W/S oil. . . and speaking of YouTube, I went and checked out your channel there Judy. I'm having the most fun discovering everyone else here and their blogs and videos. javascript:emoticonp(' ') I think I'm going to paint today . . . but the day is young and the kids still in bed (alarm ringing as I type) so the day is about to unfold. thanks again Kay KayZahn.com Paint For Joy and Share the Joy | |

| Thanks Kay,
I checked out your Greer Site. It looks beautiful. I'd love to go there in the Spring after the snow melts, since I purposely leave northern NY to get away from the snow.
We've driven that way to Holbrook once, but going through Salt River Canyon, though beautiful, is not something I would want to tackle now that I have a small RV.
I can't remember if the canyon is above or below Showlow. Do you know?

Judy The Canyon in SOUTH of Showlow. From Phx Valley we can get to ShowLow 2 ways. One, travel EAST on the 60 and go thru the salt river canyon. and Two, go north to Payson, and THEN East across the Rim to Showlow thru PinetTop and then the Ski Mtn, and then Greer. Tucson folks travel up to Globe and then thru the Canyon. . . here's a general map http://www.greeraz.com/greermap.php So to answer a question . . . the canyon is between Globe and Showlow. . . actually between Globe and the 73 Turnoff. We sometimes take that (it goes thru WhiteRiver Indian Res. and is a lovely drive) to AVOID ShowLow especially if we are going around high traffic times. that means you'd have to tackle the canyon to head up from Tucson . . but it's easy. Just go slow and DO NOT BE INTIMIDATED by people who think you should drive faster. Period. It's your world. You can do what you want If you DO want to do Greer, we'll talk and help you with the best times. There are some art fairs and music fairs from time to time. I'm trying to set up a Plein Air weekend/retreat with some instruction of some kind. Maybe I'll pull that off some day. nice talking to you Kay

| Thanks Kay,
I'm from Tucson and have done the canyon three times when my husband was alive. We had a Jimmy of pickup truck at the time. Now I have a small self contained RV which could handle the canyon, but I'm not as brave alone.
Maybe one day though. I've never been in the Greer area, only Globe, Roosevelt Dam and Showlow. One day I'll cover that area. Maybe in October, if the snow hasn't started yet.
Oh, I subscribed to your Youtube. Thanks for subscribing to mine. I haven't had too much time this winter to do any more video tpaing for it, but I will again one day.

| I heartily recommend youtube videos of Jimmy 3D and Alex perex Master art classes. Jimmy 3d (Jim Ingraham) has done quite a few series painting and does quite a nice job of explaining his work. | |

| Hullo Kay Good to meet as a cyberac. Welcome to a friendly place. Visited some of your locations, quite an adventure. Bob Ross has now disappeared from the screen here in the UK. I think he is one of the reasons why I became a night addict coming on at four or five in the morning. Anyway I look forward to your further participation. Jack | |
