Hi everyone and Happy New Year! My New Year resolution is to paint more. Off to check out the Group challenge for this month.

Janet - you're up early! Or were you still up from NY's Eve festivities?
We didn't do anything special. At midnight we went outside to see the fireworks (from the park across the street we can see the display from the riverfront).

That's a good resolution, Janet. I'm going to try that, too!

Happy New Years to all of you. I'm well rested after doing NOTHING for New Years Eve. I partied last Sunday with friends instead and then came down with a whopping cold which I'm trying not to share with anyone.

I was just getting ready to expand the Mix-up Forum to not be so restrictive as far as using other mediums with WSO only. I want to open it up to all mediums.

So I would like to encourage people to post other mediums there if they prefer. I think they might get more attention in a specific place. It is their choice, however. Either place will do.

Judy, sorry to hear about your cold. Get well soon. So if I do a piece of art in just graphite it could go in the Mix-up forum?

Oops sorry I just checked your description so just water mixable mediums like acrylics, watercolor etc. rite.

Hi Janet,

I'm not sure. Is graphite a water soluble medium?

I included the usual one like acrylics, but also some of the less used one like soft pastels. I will be posting a painting I did using pastels for the flowers and leaves and then dissolving the pastels and using watercolor techniques to apply them to the background.

We'll have to figure out a place for the other non-water soluble ones someplace along the way or leave them in here for the moment. I can't think of a good name right now but maybe someone else has on....

I had forgotten all about the fireworks then we heard a few loud booms. I didn't waste any time getting dressed - ran out the door in sweats and house shoes (how's that for festive attire?). It was so cold (did grab a jacket on the way out), but the full moon was beautiful and the fireworks over the city lights was a treat. I couldn't help thinking about Chantal standing outside to paint in these kind of temperatures

Janet - maybe you could put a gallery section (sticky) up in the Mix-up for artwork in any medium. Then people transitioning to ws oils would have a place to show there usual style and techniques (good for comparison, also).

Callie, I wouldn't do that.

I know we had talked about letting other media be posted, we just never worked out the details. Your suggestion sounds like a possibility, but I almost think they should be in the Painting Galleries, but in their own section; perhaps right under the Mixable Mix-up but relating to Non-Soluble Media.

Good resolution Janet!

My resolution is to take that extra step and be bold - express myself as much as I can in all I do, rather than stick to what's comfortable and comes easily. Plus more plein air painting and more promotion!

Self-promotion doesn't come easy for a lot of people. Be sure to bring some biz cards/postcards and a few small paintings when you're painting in a public area -you never know when an opportunity will crop up!

Judy, I'm ok with posting here if I have something I want to share in graphite etc. No problem.

Sofie, It's always fun to experiment. I find it a great way to learn new techniques.

I had debated initially about putting the pastel post in here last month, but held off on it.

So show us that charcoal you were talking about.

Judy, I have nothing rite now but I was planning on doing some more drawing. I usually draw on a regular basis it's just in the past few months that I haven't had the time.

Judy, My work schedule can get pretty hectic and yes the forum is keeping me busy as well. But I think everything for the forum is all in place now so I should have time to concentrate on my art now.

That is what I'm striving for once the newsletter is mailed and I',m over this rotten cold.

I just e-mailed you a copy with some discussion through my regular e-mail server. I thought you would be gone by now so excuse that fact thah I only addressed Callie. I'm taking a break and going to add to my Cactus Halo Painting.

I recieved your email. Thank you! The job I had to do today didn't take as long as I had anticipated.

Hi everyone! Well it's been a hectic couple of days. Printer not working, mouse was not working and the computer was being really glitchy. Everything except for the printer is working now.

Computers can be so aggravating and we depend on them so much these days. Glad you're running smoothly again.

I spend a lot of time on the computer. My printer is not such big issue because we have 2 other printers. It was a large format printer that I had not used in a while. I thinks I'll stick to laser printers in the future.

Don't know where I should post this, but great job on the newsletter! I think that a newsletter is a great idea! I'm honored to have one of my paintings represented in the gallery and want to thank all of you moderators for doing such a great job with this forum! The banner is terrific and the newsletter is a great way to get an idea of what is going on in the different parts of the forum. Keep it up!

To give credit where credit is due Judy created our Newsletter and Callie our banner. I'm lucky to have such great people to work with on the site.
