| Dale: Sorry to hear that your ribs are still sore. I went through that for about 9 months, kept seeing the doctor and nothing helped. Finally, went to a chiropractor and was better next day. Hope you enjoy the concert anyway. Dayle | |

| My wife and I are getting ready for our first little show, entitled "Impressions of Brookfield"!
It begins at MacQuarries Pharmasave in Brookfield Nova Scotia this Saturday, July 17th. We'll hang our 12 small framed canvases (6" x 6") in the local pharmacy, on their Art Wall, for the local Homecoming Week.
We have written our artist statements, and made little cards to hang next to the paintings, with information about the paintings.
It appears that they will also be showing these same works at the local tourist bureau, which happens to be a converted train station, for some type of art showing, including other artists...
We travel back to Brookfield on July 25th to pick up any (all?) unsold paintings.

| OK. I am such an emotional idiot. At 'Celtic woman', I had tears running down my cheeks for the first half of the show. It was a terrific show. | |

| Good luck Alan. I hope you sell them all.
I'm still envious of you, Dale, for getting see them live even if they made you cry. Every time they sing "Oh Danny Boy," I cry. My father was an Irish tenor, mostly when he had a few too many at a family gathering, and that was one of his favorites to sing.

| I'm glad you got to see them, Dale - sounds like it was a special night for you.
Alan, I hope you have some cards to hand out as well so people can find you after the show. Good Luck!

| Good luck Alan. Started a 3rd tonal painting of...yup...water again. But i am looking at painting a still life of a silver water jug. I have some books by Helen Van Wyk - one of my favorite artists. Too bad she had cancer and we lost her. In the meantime, I really love doing a tonal underpainting - it really allows me to geet a good sense of what the painting could look like. | |

| Thanks Dale, It sure was. My Mom would sing harmony with him. Back before the luxury of radios in a car, they would sing all the while we rode in the car to go to Maryland to see my Mom's sister. It sure passed the time. Judy | |

| Thanks, everyone! I didn't do anything special, painted with a friend this morning and had coffee with the in-laws this afternoon. I was hoping to finish up a painting (grapes in the works in progress sub-forum) before I start this month's challenge painting, but it still needs a lot of work. I think I'll start a challenge painting anyway. | |

| Here are a few photos of our very first showing outside the house... we "installed the exhibit" on Saturday morning. It's all very low tech and modest, just a hallway near the dispenser counter in a drugstore, easily seen by customers and staff. We brought a plastic brochure holder, and plenty of programs, plus a sign and information cards. Our contact information and artist statements are in the program. The community of Brookfield NS has already been very supportive. These will remain on view for 2 weeks. " border="0" /> " border="0" /> | |

| Nice presentation. I like the black mounting. It really brings out the paintings. It's also nice to meet your wife. Good luck with the show. I actually started out with my paintings in a restaurant and a small cafe, and did quite well. It got my name out there which is the important thing. Judy | |

| Hi Judy, thanks for the comments. I'd like to hear more about how your cafe showing came about, and maybe others can share some exhibit stories also. We're pretty excited to be showing our work to the public, and grateful to have a warm (okay, maybe cool, but climate controlled, ha ha) and dry place to hang them. The residents of Brookfield are pleasantly surprised that someone is exhibiting original oil paintings of their community. Here's another photo, Helen happened to be standing in view when I took it. The blood pressure bench in the left of the photo is there just in case, ha ha. " border="0" /> | |

| great idea to use the drug store. Our local library allows monthly bookings to show artwork and will also promote the show through the local newspaper. The doctor's office hangs small quilts for sale and there was a small cafe that hung paintings as well. Last week I was uptpwn and saw an old clothing store display window advertising art rental space. The building was now an office but the display window had been unused so someone cleverly "rented" the space and would in turn, rent out to artists. | |

| The show looks great with all the same size paitings and the black frames - that really works. It looks like you both put a lot of thought into this and it;s very professional looking. | |

| Alan, The restaurants where ones that were just opening and had no wall decor at the time. The cafe was getting ready to remodel. All of them were ones that my husband and I had gone to a few times, and they were getting to know us before I proposed putting some of my paintings in. They were all thrilled about the prospect and I would rotate pictures periodically as I produced new ones or sold ones. I did this for about 4 years. After a while it was hard to keep up with them because I was doing a lot of art fairs and traveling so I eventually took them out as their needs changed also. Judy | |
