16th Painting: Four Oranges Empty

Hi All:

I warned you guys, that I am trying to get my yellow down (and also trying to increase my speed) Very Happy .

So here are 4 oranges that I did every day with the largest brush I could use and with different background, different orientation different viewpoint. I put my emphasis on speed, all of them were less than an hour. ( the blue things in the corner of the picture are tape that is holding the canvas on the panel.).

I think this exercise of painting frequently and small is a very good idea. No big commitments and if I fail so what, I did not invest too much time. (I got this from Kevin Macpherson & Carol Marine).

I started out painting small as I was developing skills and then went to mid sized paintings as I started selling prints. Now I do big ones for my own home and what ever size I feel like doing in between. I have been spending quite a bit of time doing 9 x 12 paintings focusing on specific topics such as mountains, skies, water and most recently rocks.

I very rarely strive to do something in a specific time frame, especially with being retired. I think challenging yourself to a time frame and the fantastic results you are getting with color values is a great way to develop you skills. Keep up the good work.

Hi Judy:

You are right. I feel the most important thing about art is to enjoy and it should not feel like a burden. If one is not enjoying it then the whole effort becomes meaningless. Very Happy

Your works are beautiful and I have to build up the confidence and the courage to do big work like yours and offcourse I will have to slow down as well when I start doing large work. What I am painting is miniscule by your comaprison (few inches x few inches), therefore I can churn them out within an hour.

Take Care
