I'm very pleased to have completed the Umbrellas painting.

It has been a month since I had worked on it. Wow, August went fast! I tried to begin on Saturday, but could tell within a few minutes that it was not a good painting day for me.
I had no patience, and felt very tired. There was a hurricane blowing through, but that did not produce any painting energy in me.

So, yesterday, Labour Day, I worked on all the problem areas for about 3 hours, and brought them up to a level where I was satisfied.

This, my first big painting, has turned into my most challenging one yet, and I have learned a tremendous amount in handling it.

Now, to go on to something completely different. Maybe a few little sketches, or a study or two to prepare for the next biggie.

Alan: Your Umbrella painting is so great! I don't know how you did all those different figures and faces, but it definitely works.

Alan,

It was worth all the work. You did a great job and I really applaud you for taking on the challenge of so many people, postures ad faces. Definitely a brave soul.

Hi Dayle and Judy, thanks for your comments. The people were more challenging than I originally thought they would be. Oooh, maybe that doesn't sound very good in text, but what I mean is that I have a lot to learn in people painting. Even more than I thought. This was great practise.

And maybe it's time to paint a sunny scene!

Fantastic Alan! The suggested detail in the buildings is wonderful! I love how each figure seems to have his/her own character. Smile

Great work, Alan! You've really captured the rainy atmosphere. I like the sense of distance and height too. Very nice! thumbs up

Thanks Janet, Sofie and Callie.

Sofie, the painting is 24" x 36". I looked back in my log book, and see that I began back in February with the pencil sketch, painted the background hill and buildings in March, then resumed in May with the foreground figures. So, off and on since March. I haven't totalled the hours yet, but I suspect around 40 hours maybe.
