General Chat - May 2010

Hi everyone! Hope everyone is doing well.

All is well here. Once again the tornadoes passed us by (along with any wind/lightening damage). There were some power outages too, but today has been dry and almost sunny. So I'm back on the computer - just got the May Challenge up in case anyone wondered where it was! Speaking of which; there's the usual assortment of photos, but you can also use your own images for this challenge - so check it out!

I'm glad everything is well Callie. I'm looking forward to trying out the RYB challenge!

Glad to hear the tornadoes have passed you again. I keep watching them because this week I start driving across the southern route...I-10 all the way to Florida. Between the oil spills in the gulf and the tornadoes across the south east, I keep debating about the trip.

Wish me luck and say a prayer if you could. I'll need all the help I can get.

In Miami now (Aventura). Sitting in an outdoor laundromat at the RV park. Today we are going to tour some of the beaches and probably spend time on the boardwalk tonight when it is cooler.

Hi Judy! Nice to hear from you! The spring here is turning out to be very unpredictable. It actually snowed on Saturday. Everything has melted but that's the first time that I remember it snowing in May. Florida is sounding great rite about now.

Well, I guess I ordered these WMOs for a better reason than I knew at the time. I originally ordered them because my husband has asthyma, but since then he has told me that his asthyma doesn't act up from allergies, but from too much physical exertion. I haven't really cared for the WMOs--they are a lot different from the regular oils I used to use. I haven't painted in 6 or 7 years and was really discouraged after my first try and have had trouble forcing myself to try again. For the last 2 1/2 months I've had a respiratory infection, and my doctor recently told me that I had pneumonia. He said it will take about another 2 weeks for me to get well, but it will take longer for me to get over my fatigue and recover my strength. I'm really glad I already have the WMOs--I wouldn't use the regular oils now, since I would hate to irritate my lungs again. I probably won't try to paint for a couple more weeks, but will try to upload my next paintings, if I can. Thanks for all your kindness and help.

Thanks to God, I'm feeling pretty good now.

Dayle, sorry to hear you've been ill, I hope you have a speedy recovery!
Try to have a little patience with the ws oils, after awhile you'll stop comparing them to the trad. oils and find out how to make them "behave" for you

Dayle, hope you're feeling all better soon. Wise words from Callie. I went from Acrylics to WSOs so I didn't have that problem to overcome but it certainly took me a long time to get used to the drying time. I made piles and piles of mud. I found the thing that took the longest for me is finding the the rite combination of mediums that worked for me. I'm still experimenting and learning.

Thanks Callie and Janet. I feel a lot better already--the doctor found some antibiotics that work, so it's just a matter of time. I'm excited about the WMOs again, now that I really need to use them.

Dayle, I'm really glad your feeling better and you're feeling excited about the WMOs. Once you get use to them you'll see how great they're to work with.

Glad to hear you are doing better Crystal, an old friend of mine just got out of the hospital with pneumonia. Haven't done much myself lately, getting tied up with Summer chores, primary campaigns, etc. I did apply some friska to my " Holy Family " drawing. And I have been researching for suitable surrounding scenery. I have pretty much settled on a day time scene with flowers and trees with just a bit of sky at the top. I didn't realize how desolate a place Bethlehem was, very bleak as far as scenery. Reminds one of an outpost at the end of the world. So my setting will be some where in Gallilee where there is a little scenery. Still Christmasy enough, who will know the difference except those who have actually been there. Still not satisfied with Joseph's attire, can't get the folds right and again I can't find a suitable model. But I keep looking. As a last resort I will put on my cabin wrap and paint through the mirror. Later.

Linus, all the research you put into your paintings is great. You never know who will see it (and say "hey, what's that doing there?").

Linus, have you considered just keeping a muted background perhaps suggesting Galilee, but not enough to distract from the main focus of the child and parents?

I had a fantastic weekend! The weather wasn't great on Saturday but a great excuse to have a fire all day. Sunday was beautiful. It's so relaxing. Hope everyone had a good weekend!
