PostSubject: New Oak trees   Wed May 19, 2010 7:47 pm

I'm doing a series of tree paintings of trees in a local park. I'm having a show in the heritage lodge in that park in mid July, so I think it will be a good draw. I've posted a few of the tree paintings already. This one I've just started is the biggest one in the series. It's a diptych made from 2 24"x36" canvases, so it is 48"x36". I've got the two canvases attached for the painting process. I prepped my canvas with a wash of cadmium yellow hue and a bit of magenta thinned down with some odourless thinner. I drew the picture on with water colour pencils and now I'm filling in the areas of colour with artisan paints thinned with artisan thinner. I'm using prussian blue and lemon yellow for the greens. The trunks I coloured in with a mixture of colours that were on my palette from last night.

Thanks Janet. I'm a few more hours into this and it's starting to take shape.

I really love how you're doing the foliage on the trees.
