| Sofie, It is beautiful. The blend of colors, the soft tree trunk texture, and the detail of the stone on the building all blend into a wonderful composition. I love it. Judy | |

| Wow, very nice! I like how the green on the walkway echoes the pattern of leaves in the sky, it seems to bring the two areas together.
Also like the way the shadows of the tree branches play across the lodge wall.
I'm sure this one will find a good home!

| Sofie,
Thank you for sharing your work, it is just lovely!
Hope you don’t mind me asking a few questions about this work of art: Did you use a straight edge for your roof line and the edges of the lodge? And the lighting is wonderful, looks like possibly an evening light. Do you fill in most of the sky after you have painted the trees? Also what were some of your colors and the size of your painting? I have always been intrigued by shadowing what and how to use my colors for that, is it just adding some gray to the already color of the grass to get the shadowing?
Thank you for showing us this painting and feel free to not answer the questions.
I could just sit and look at this piece for a long time – Very nice painting!

| That was a really good video, Judy. I learned a lot, and will probably look at it more often when I paint. Thanks, Dayle | |

| Hi Dana - thanks for your interest in my method. This painting is 22"x28". I drew the lodge in first with water colour pencil and used a ruler to get all the lines straight. I don't paint with a straight edge, I just use a steady hand. I did paint the leaves and sky over and around the branches that I drew in, then painted the branches in, then did a bit more work on leaves and sky in some areas.
The colours I used for the building were raw uimber, raw sienna, naples yellow, white, and prussian blue. I used indian red and magenta and cad yellow for the beech tree with some diox purple in the darker areas. Most of my other greens are prussian blue, cad yellow light hue, and a bit of lemon yellow, diox purple, and sometimes a tiny bit of white ( like in the blue atlas cedars in the background). The sky has touches of many of the colours on my palette, but is predominately cerulian blue and white.
Shadows - to darken shadows I usually add some diox purple and or raw umber, depending on the color. I also used prussian blue in places. For the dapples of light on the grass, these areas were not painted dark green - I just used yellower greens. Tonal variations in the grassy areas were usually made by blending in bluer or yellower tones, depending on the effect desired. I never use greys and use white sparingly.

| Thank you so very much.....It was very easy for me to visualize your work as you described it. I could sit and watch an artist for hours and get lost in their work…..I am so visual in everything I do. I appreciate all the time, energy, and detail in giving me word pictures of how you created this wonderful piece – Thank you !!! | |
