I just finished writing an article about ways to enhance the focal point in your paintings. It looks mainly at landscape painting, but all of these concepts apply to any painting where you want to direct the viewer to the center of interest.

The topics include:

"The Rule of Thirds"

"Follow the Path"

"Lighting and Tonal Values"

"Focus and Detail" and

"Balance."

Rather than re-writing the whole thing here, I am giving you a direct link to the article. I hope you find it helpful and that it stimulates some new ideas as you paint.

LOL!!! Razz

That's too much like work, Jan...I'm retired. I just enjoy writing once in a while when the spirit moves me. Writing for Squidoo is no pressure and the articles get pretty good exposure to the search engines so you feel like your efforts are worth it.

My true love is painting.

Glad you have all enjoyed it. Probably most of you know this all ready, but I figure there are a lot of people who visit this forum that might gain some new insight from the articles. I know I do.
