59th Painting: Oink-Oink Empty
PostSubject: 59th Painting: Oink-Oink   59th Painting: Oink-Oink EmptyWed Jun 19, 2013 1:02 am

It has rained in the past few days... and the garage has cooled down considerably. I took advantage of it and quickly sketched this piggie... Even though I am calling it a painting,... It really is a sketch....

I do see a few issues, but what the heck... here it is...

All constructive feedback are welcome... Smile

I looked at the piggie and the previous flower vase.  It turns out that the pictures are just not coming out that good.  the flower vase had an ok blurred water line, could be better, but in the picture it looks like a solid line... and the piggie has a very muddy looking pink at the bottom, however the painting looks ok.  I need to learn photography before I can market my paintings successfully.

It's so difficult to photograph a painting. I look at my own photos, and usually don't think they're great. There is the question of being faithful to the painting, so does one boost the image levels so the final image on the computer screen resembles the painting? But the monitor is a backlit screen, and the painting isn't. No easy answer.

This is a nice representation of the piggie, and you have really captured the reflections and texture of 'him'. For some reason, 'his' face reminds me of the work of Brad Holland, the editorial cartoonist/painter. If you are not familiar with him, it would be worth a look to see what I mean.

I also like the risks you take with colour, in the background, and subject. The colours you work with are challenging, I would think. Looking forward to number 60.

I don't know what you could have done better if you actually painted it LOL, rather than just doing a sketch. The nice thing about photographs for printing is that you can sometimes tweak a problem in the painting to make it look better in the photo such as the muddy color on the bottom of bank which only you know exists.

Oh! Did you check the PM in your mail box that I sent you about a questionable email I got from your Yahoo account.?

Thanks for the feedback guys.

LOL... good point... actualy I did it rather rapidly... that is why I am categorizing it as sketch and is not refined and cleaned up in many places and left as it is... really what difference does it make... Smile However, does it look any different from my previous work?

Yes! Judy I know about the questionable mail from my e-mail account.  It went out to lots of people in my e-mail... Yahoo, sensed it and made me change my password... I am slowly going to get out of yahoo...

Faisal, I think this looks very pottery-like & also think the photo came out very well. As for it looking different than your usual work - yes and no. As you said, it's not as detailed but I'd definitely recognize this as your style.

I've heard tons of tips for photographing your art and find that the best photos for me come about by photographing outside in light shade. Stand back from the art and use the zoom lens on your camera to focus in on the painting. Try to align the painting so it's not crooked in the photo although that can be fixed in a good photo software.
