| This is the base layer, a thinned wash, on 18" x 24" stretched canvas. The Artisan palette is a little different this time: Titanium White, Cad Yellow Pale Hue, Yellow Ochre, Sap Green, Cad Red Med Hue, Fr Ultramarine blue and Raw Umber. I needed to control the greens more this time, and the area at the top just cried out for yellow ochre. Once it dries, I will start to work on areas of interest and details. This photo is about 1.5 hours in... | |

| It's nice to see how you start a painting, especially a landscape like this one. I love waterfalls so it will be interesting to see this develop. | |

| Thanks Jan, Faisal, Crystal and Judy. I will be learning about painting moving water in this one, and how moss needs to be represented. I had several days available to do some painting this week/weekend, so I made the most of it... | |

| Thanks Jan. I had a couple of hours available today, so I reacquainted myself with this painting. I worked on the banks and midground area, blocking in colour shapes. Lots more to do, maybe as soon as tomorrow. | |

| Thanks Faisal. I am learning a ton with this painting. New subject, new techniques. Here is a newer progress snapshot, after 1.75 more hours of painting today (it's a long weekend in many provinces). The base layer of water is in, so I can go back to the stream banks next. | |

| Looking good. I can feel the water flowing down a gentle winding path even with only the base layer.
PS: I'm off the road and settled in. | |

| Hi Alan, I am going to hold my precious comment for the finale... I know you are going to blow us away like you did with your seascapes. Faisal | |

| Thanks Jan, Judy and Faisal for your comments. I have 3 paintings in various stages of finish, so there is lots of learning to be done. Feels good. | |

| An update on the waterfall painting. Another hour in; added rock in bottom left corner, and worked on the green on the right. sigh. Never enough time... | |

| Both are looking good. Your creak in the original one is receding beautifully into the woods. The 1 hour one is also very good. It is amazing how you can still get the message across without taking days to paint. It gives a feeling of wilderness and freedom more so than the original one at this time. I'm sure it will go over well for the charity. | |

| Thank you both for your comments. I hadn't worked on the larger version for several weeks, and the little 'quick sketch' session was just what I needed to get myself out of my stall. (thinking airplanes rather than horses, ha ha) Then I put in an hour on the larger one while I had the momentum. | |

| I like this small one, Alan. Normally, I'm not a fan of a painting that's too impressionistic or abstract but this is just perfect. Hope it brings a ton at the charity event. | |
