This is the base layer of my newest painting, which measures 24" x 36".
Artisan paints, same limited palette as usual. Tomorrow I have a few corrections to make to the far left side, where the shadowed rocks need some revision.
Then let it dry for a week or so, and work on something else.

You're certainly the rock master and this one is starting off really well.

Thanks Faisal Jan and Judy. I made some changes to the rock wall on the left, which I am happier with now. But it will have a chance to dry before I get back to it.

Back to this one today. I worked on the trees and rocks on the far left. Painting is 24" x 36"

This looks great at this stage. I would call it done at this stage. I am sure however, that you will take it to the next level of completion.

Faisal

This is beautiful. You have done such a great job with bringing light into the center, pulling the viewer in. The rock in the front on the right is a little scary (it might fall on me. LOL) but the interior is so inviting, I just want to walk right in.

Thanks for the comments, Faisal and Judy. I still have work to do on this one, but at a distance (or when it is reduced in size) it appears further along than it actually is. The foreground rock will have stronger definition, and the background rocks might even soften a bit; we shall see.

Judy, these huge rocks DO fall sometimes, but only when they have eroded quite a bit more; you see fallen rocks here and there in the park. (but no easels visible under them, ha ha)

Well, I had a chance to do some painting today; 3 hours plus on this one. But then I looked at it and I will likely redo some of it. I gave the sky a second coat, and worked on the background trees a bit. Then I started the big rock on the right. At the end, it seemed that the style of painting I did on the rock didn't match the style for the left (shaded) rocks. So, back at it soon, maybe Friday.
