party Happy New Year Belated.

I can't believe we are all ready half way through January. I see that we have been busy. New people have joined the forum and active members have been welcoming them and answering questions. We have become a valuable resource for people starting out with Water Soluble Oils. People are using the forum as guests and members which is great

I hope that our active membership will grow throughout this New Year. It is fun having people to share your work with and get feed back as well as give feed back to people with questions. Painting is a continuous learning process and hopefully people will find this as a place to learn and expand.

May we all have a healthy and prosperous 2013.

Judy artist

I've just purchased some 8 x 8 gessoboard ampersand panels. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to hang them once they are painted other than to put them in a frame. They do not have a frame or backing.

Thanks

I've always framed them except one I stood up on a small easel for putting pictures on.

I am not familiar with these, so I Googled them. They look like wood panels that are gessoed.
Depending on the depth, if they are thick and sturdy enough, you could just hang them as is, unframed, with wire hanger. If yours is very thin, maybe mounting it on a thicker panel would give you the depth you need.
Or, as in the MDF I have painted on, just have that thin board framed.

They are about 1/8 to 1/4 inches thick depending on the size. They are very rigid and stand on their own without being flimsy.

By the way, there are all different surfaces with different textures and media usage. I've done oils, acrylics and watercolor (specific one for watercolor.) I like them because they are easy to frame in less expensive frames because they are not thick like canvas.

I'll post a picture of one shortly.

The Ampersand panels are favorites of mine for many mediums. Some of them have a keyhole in the back for hanging but most of the thinner ones do best framed. If you don't like the look of a frame, perhaps just a minimal one? Or you can make the panels into cradled supports if you're handy at woodworking. Sorry not to have a better solution for you.

Can I take a minute to brag? I just sold a 30 x 26 inch print of a desert scene I did in WSO's several years ago through my FineArtAmerica account. If any of you are not familiar with this company, they handle everything in selling your art work and pay you what you ask for specific sizes. All you do is send them a high resolution jpg file and write a SEO title and description for it.

You can list up to 25 paintings for free. If you list over that, it is $30 a year and you get a special artist website that connects to them. Here's the link for the painting I just sold. Last year I sold 8 paintings, just sitting home painting.

This was one of my early paintings before I knew more about composition and other things, so if I had it to do over again, there would be some significant changes, especially about the central position of the peak of the mountain.

Congratulations Judy!!! I am so pleased that you are selling through the site!
Part of the appeal of selling (for me anyway) is imagining the work being admired by people I will never meet, the whole exotic idea of the work being a part of other peoples' lives.
Bravo!

Thank you all. For years, I did 3-day art shows 2 to 3 times a month and was excited meeting people who admired and bought my work. About 3 years ago, I decided it was just too much work setting up tents, carrying and hanging paintings and doing that all. Also, worrying about wind and rain on the tents was just getting too stressful as I was approaching 70. I figured after 12 years of doing that, it was time to take the easy way out. Each sale is still very exciting, especially when you get paid, and you don't even have to step out your door.

Congratulations, Judy! I've always hated the art show circuit too and wondered if sites like Fine Art America really produced results.

Do you have to do a lot of promoting with it? I have a Zazzle store but am considering deleting my account with them as I think you really need to push to make any money and I'm not so good at that.

Anyway, I'm so tickled that you're selling! I always say that if anyone is selling then there's hope for me! lol But you have a beautiful painting too.

HI Jan,

I've given up on Zazzle also. I have to completely change my art style to sell there.

The biggest thing with FAA is that you have to write stuff when you submit your painting that search engines will look for; keywords in title, description and keyword list. After that, there isn't much work except you having people aware of your link to it with you business card, email signature, and the signature in any forum you participate in. I also always post it to my twitter and Facebook pages when I submit new one or sell one.

Thanks for that, Judy. My style doesn't really go with Zazzle either although I have sold some there which is amazing since I don't promote much at all.

I've given up pet portraiture as it didn't leave me any time for my own painting plus just about killed any creativity. Clients want their pets to look a certain way which doesn't leave much room for artist interpretation!

Anyway, when I get some work ahead, I'll definitely sign up for FAA.

Don't wait too long. I just sold another one today ... three this month and one in January. I am really excited. This one was a 20 x 40 acrylic landscape.

Thank you both. This one is my favorite. The original is 24 by 48 and hangs on a high wall in my living room. My rooms have vaulted ceiling so I have lot of big high spaces to fill with paintings.

Website
I have tried to update my website by amending my profile. But the footy bit on my posts has not accepted the change. There is most likely a very simple answer to this but .... not for me

Jack,

It is so good to see you again. It been a while since your move. If you want to update your website on the bottom of your posts, go to the menu up top and click on profile. The new menu that comes up under the usual one has the option "Signature." Click on that and you can make the revisions.

Can't wait to see what you have been up to.

Judy

PAINTING BIGGER ....... CRASH
Now I'm into the swing of things again I decided to paint bigger. Unfortunately my easel which was made for smaller works collapsed. Am now waiting for a courier to deliver a new easel.
Courier just arrived, now to unpack and construct. Frabjus joy.
Will get started straight away
