The impressionists were my inspiration and as far as modern artist Scott Burdick. I've always had an urge to draw and paint but was too busy while my daughter was growing up. I started at 40 with colored pencils because that was what I had on hand.

I have been struggling with finding what style I hope to pursue. I really want my art to be cohesive and that's hard to do I find. I paint alot in black and white (portraiture) along with some still life, abstract and low brow art, all in color but I keep getting drawn (no pun intended) back to black and white. My inspirations are the late Mark Rothko. I first learned of his work from a documentary I saw and it was while watching this that I realized art is for me entirely subjective. As I watched Rothko paint I was overcome with emotion while others around me thought me crazy for being so moved. There is something in his work that touches my heart. He was an abstract artist and he painted large. I like to think I aquired my love of color from him. Another inspiring artist is Gerhard Richter, also an abstract artist, as well he paints black and white portraits and seascapes that resemble old photographs. His paintings look as though they are in motion with a beautiful blurred quality to them. I became an artist after the loss of two family members.

Well to answer this question... we have to regress to my child hood... Smile

I have always loved to draw and sketch. I drew and sketched in every sort of medium I could find. I remember drawing Bollywood actors and actresses from movie magazines, The water color paintings found in the back cover of the Readers Digest and paintings from encyclopedia. My parents always encouraged me to draw (and paint).

When I grew up I took up pastel to transition into color and now I am into WSO. These days, I admire Carol Marine, Kevin MacPherson and James Gurney. off course there are many more, but I find them to be the most inspiring and to be very good teachers.

For the past one year, I have taken art more seriously and even started a blog recently: www.FaisalTariq.com

"I want to grow up to be an artist".... Smile
