PostSubject: Introducing myself   Sat Apr 21, 2012 11:41 pm

Hi-
My name is Lynne, and I have looked on this site from time to time as I have begun to re-explore painting. I have been mainly playing with watercolors over the years, and in no way consider myself an artist- simply a soul who enjoys paint and admires the ability of artists. I live close to Seattle, and today had an experience with a local company that makes water soluble oil paints now. I remembered this site, so thought I would post!

Hello lynne:

Welcome to the forum. I believe an artists learning never ends... so you are in the right company. I have started watercolor very recently, for plain air, and am enjoying it.

Welcome once again!

HI Lynne,

Glad you stopped by. I'm curious as to which company is near you. I worked with WSO's for over 10 years and have tried a variety of different brands and have really enjoyed them. I have done some watercolor, but really struggle with it because of the fact that you have to plan light areas right from the start.

Hope you visit more often and contribute as you can. We do have a "Water Mixable Mix-up section for other media http://watersolubleoils.forumotion.com/f14-water-mixable-mix-up if you want to post some of your watercolor work there. Faisal, you might also want to do that.

I look forward to seeing you around the forum.
Judy

PostSubject: Thank you!   Thu May 03, 2012 10:44 am

Thanks for the welcome! The company that I was speaking of is Daniel Smith Artist Supplies. It is a store I went to with a friend who does amazing work with fine tip pens, and while I was browsing I saw someone use Quinacridone Gold watercolor and I got hooked. Before that, I had used Caran D'Ache and loved it (still do), but this was a whole different level of color. The store caters to professionals, so for a person like me it is a treat to use really nice paints.
I stopped back in yesterday to look at the water soluble paints again. I did not invest yet, but I may as well do it. I cannot get this stuff out of my mind! Oils are so different, and I am not a trained artist- but just watching the brush strokes is amazing. Why this is so appealing to me at this point is a bit of a mystery...
Anyway, thanks again! I'll post again when I take the plunge.
Lynne

Lynne, we are not trained artists either. Call us 'driven amateurs'. Hope to hear more from you.
