Here's the start of the large version of the Johnstown Church image. 24" x 36".
While working on the pencil drawing of the elements in the painting, I had an "Epiphany", ha ha.
The telephone poles that I had deliberately left out of the small study were suddenly interesting. The tops looked like little crosses. Hmmm.
So, this time I left them in. These snapshots show the first hour or so of base painting, using thinned Artisans.

I like the addition of the poles. It seems to fill in a gap between the road and the church and they do look like crosses.

And the poles add a progressive depth to the painting, which is really nice!

Thanks all, for your comments. Much appreciated. Here's hoping for some time this week to get the brushes wet again...

Work is actually progressing on this one. I started the road and grass during the weekend. Should be able to photograph it and upload a new image soon.
I have changed computers, and am still catching up on transferring photos and whatnot.
But best of all, finding a little time now to keep painting.

Sounds like there have been quite a few changes recently. Good luck with your new job and in getting back to painting.

Finally a chance to upload a snapshot. This is from a couple of weeks ago, but things have been busy around here.

With this one, I am trying to concentrate first on value, so the scene will feel right for me, then go back and work more with the color if necessary.

A little further today with the horizon, the monuments, and the church roof.
