| I'm putting this announcement/review here because there's a new e-book out about a loose method of painting in traditional oil. However, I really think the information would help anyone.
Right now it's at an introductory price of just $2.99 so I bought it even though "how to" art books usually don't do it for me. This one is a bit different as there's both pictures and text that really explains how the artist does what he does and gets the painting results he gets. Plus, there's even some "secret" You Tube video to show some of the way he does things.
Actually, even more than the instruction, there were a couple of tips that were well-worth the price of the book.
If you don't have a Kindle book reader, you can download an ap for your smart phone or computer and still make use of e-books. I have a Kindle and got so excited about this book on it that I downloaded the ap for my PC just so I could see it all larger!
I'll put both links in the next message as I don't think I can make them clickable in this one.

| OK, let me see if I can give you a link to the e-book:
http://www.amazon.com/Wildlife-Oil-Painting-Stribblings-revealed-ebook/dp/B00JQMXO2O
(Alan and others in Canada or other countries may have to search for their local Amazon link)
And here's a link for the e-reader for your computer, etc.:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.html/ref=kcp_pc_mkt_lnd?docId=1000426311
David Stribbling is a great wildlife and animal painter but these methods will transfer to any painting genre.

| I didn't know whether to put the link here since it's about traditional oil or to put it in the Art Talk section. If it's not in the right place, maybe you or Judy or Alan could move it.
I'm going to try his methods in WSO soon. Just have other paintings in the works that I need to finish first.
How was your workshop?

| Thanks Jan, I think I'll get it for my Kindle, too. It sounds interesting. I'll leave this post here, but I think I can also duplicate in the Art Talk section. | |

I knew David's book was available all over and I'm happy you found it, Alan.

| I just bought the Richard Schmidt book for $100.00 (ouch!). But it is worth it. The pictures themselves are so awesome… that I could sit and look at them for hours. It is packed with lots and lots and did I say lots, of information. He seems candid and unpretentious.

| I have an earlier printing of Alla Prima, and it is worth the money. I like how he approaches his paintings: even though he reveals a lot of how he works, you can sense that he has a lifetime of experience. He did a lot of 'tedious' technical training to prepare for what he seems to produce spontaneously. | |

| Wow - I mostly don't learn well from how-to books so can't imagine spending so much on one book. It must be a doozy! Wish our library had it and I'd check it out.

| Jan, I find his painting to be remarkable. I just checked his website (richardschmid.com) and the book is for sale there. PLUS, there is a very generous preview of the book, with about 20 pages visible. Worth a quick visit to see what you think! | |

| Thanks for the positive review, Alan. I did go to his site and looked at the pages that were visible. It does make me want the book and I'm sure it's worth it but the price is just a little steep.

| I have the book now. It is fantastic, candid and lot to offer… I am enjoying reading it… It has lots of useful information… especially the color tables and why they are important to understand the range of your painting… Very good book. | |

| I've spent the past two days working from the e-book painting the lion. I'm doing it in Painter X3 in digital oils using a worn bristle brush and a rigger as he suggested. I'll post it once I get it done. Of course, he says he does it in one sitting. I'm on day two (2 hours each day) and have a few ore days to go. | |

Can't wait to see it, Judy! I still haven't even started a painting based on his e-book! | |

| It's a little challenging for me, but I'm enjoying it. He recommends doing the paintings in sequence so you learn the process. I hope to continue through each one as time allows. | |
