Finally had a chance to finish this 6" x 6" study. The image was photographed in Jonestown, Nova Scotia, on Christmas Eve afternoon 2010.
I liked the sombre quality of the light and the view of a church sitting at the top of the hill.
The monuments seemed appropriate, in that light. I repositioned them slightly, and simplified them.
At this point, the 'study' has been well studied, ha ha. I wiped off and repainted the church and spire/steeple 4 or 5 times, and learned a lot in the process.
I plan to paint a larger version of this one, maybe soon.
This painting is destined for an art sale in Nova Scotia in October. The money from all the contributed small paintings goes to a worthy charity.
