Greetings all, I started painting in 2009, and have 12 works completed so far. It's been a fun experience to work in oils and I hope to learn much from fellow painters.

I completed "Catching a Dream" a few months ago, 20"x24" linen canvas. I'm almost done with "Iris Ballooning", 22"x28" cotton canvas. I must say, even with the limited number of pieces I've done; I just love using linen over cotton; it's like painting on glass.

Any comments/critiques are welcome.

Wow Again!   Really luscious colors you've got going in the Iris painting.   Looking forward to seeing the completed piece.

Very imaginative work! Iris Ballooning brings to mind a combination of Dali and the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta! Very very interesting, looking forward to seeing more!

Beautiful work. It makes me want to know the stories behind the paintings. There certainly is a lot going on and the colors are magnificent.

Thank you all for your kind comments. Thank you for asking Judy, my paintings do tell stories and I think are my way of telling my subconscious thoughts.

"Catching a Dream" - When I was losing sight in my right eye, I was in an up and down state of depression. To relieve my stress I started doodling on canvas and came up with this piece.

Dreamcatcher is a Native American hoop with a web to catch dreams (some say nightmares). Here we have a boot in the stream and the Rose embossed onto it has drowned. The other Rose prayed and her dream was caught. The hoop no longer needs the webbing and the pink rose in the sky is symbolic of the freedom gained. Rose is now rising from the boot safe and free. She has dropped a petal onto the surface of the water as a wreath honoring her fallen sister. The lizard looks on in curiosity, always the watcher.

Iris Ballooning is second in a series of Iris. This time Iris is experiencing balloon glow and the ever changing weather of NM while ballooning. The large foreground balloon is supposed to be a balloon glow at sunset. I kept it bright to lead the viewer to Iris; and the other balloons muted so attention wouldn't be drawn to one.

I previously did a painting (see below) with a character I called Iris which was a big hit with friends and family. It was a hot day out and I was going through my garden and saw how droopy and hot my Irises looked. I thought how they would love to be in water and then I saw this image of Iris floating on an air mattress enjoying a cool drink and I started drawing this picture on the canvas.

After writing all this, I hope you read this Judy, LOL. To others out there, I hope I haven't bored you. Tim

I love your stories. I was wondering about the iris with the legs in "Catching a Dream." Now I understand. They had an Iris show in Hondo when I was leaving Ruiduso, but I didn't have time to stop. I wish I had. I do have tons of photos from an Iris farm in Phoenix, though. They are such a beautiful flower. Thanks for sharing the stories behind the paintings.

Judy

Yes, thank you, Tim, for the stories. They are very moving. I can relate to your current troubles. I'm having health problems and our 35 year old son has been out of work for a year now. I gave him my studio for his bedroom, so he wouldn't end up on the streets. I'm really impressed at how well you paint, and how difficult it must be for you. My prayers are with you.

Hi Tim. Intriguing and imaginative paintings! Thanks for the stories behind your work too.
I agree with you about painting on linen - just wonderful!
