Yeah, 10 x 14 is a standard size for photo print paper (at least it used to be when I was developing and printing my own B&W photos - one 10 x 14 also divided into four 5 x 7's, another standard size).   Both Fredrix and Blick offer 10 x 14 canvas panels, so maybe someday someone will include this as "standard" for their frames.   Sort of in-between standard and custom are the "buy-by-the-inch" frames from several internet art supply places.   Not as expensive as local-framer custom, but more than standard.

PostSubject: rabbit skin glue   Sun Oct 09, 2011 10:57 pm

A million years ago, taking painting in college, I used to stretch my own. The product I painted on the canvas, a layer before the gesso, was a heated up rabbit skin glue. When it dried, it tightened the canvas like a drum head! I don't know if rabbit skin glue is still available, is politically correct, or is even safe. Anybody use it?

Polly, I spoke to a few artists recently that still use rabbit glue. They even paint right onto the glue itself. Apparently you heat it up on the stove, cool it and then reheat it to work with it. I haven't done any of my own research on the product yet.
