September already! And some of you are still hanging out over in August sunny

We don't have an area in the forum for items for sale, and I was wondering if we should have that? A place for members (active members-no spammers) to sell/trade art supplies. I'm bringing this up because Terry has a good assortment of Artisan oils she would like to sell (a really good deal!), and there's no obvious place to post that. If anyone is interested, send Terry a private message and she'll give you the details.
So...Should we have a marketplace type of sub-forum?

I think that is a fantastic idea Callie. And I wish there were a way to do a swap of paintings. but I don't know how you would do it without making someone feel awkward about not accepting a swap.

Where would Terry be shipping from?

I think we discussed this among the moderators previously and felt it was a good idea...we just needed more members first. Restricting selling to active members is a good idea. We would have to work out criteria for qualifications.
If anyone has experience with this or has something to contribute, we (the moderators) would appreciate the input so we can come up with a proposal to submit to the membership for review before finalizing it..

I am a mudder.

I just spent the last few hours making mud. And this is not a good thing. I was trying to add the right colors of autumn grass and kept adding and adding and adding and it all got to be too omuch so I wiped off what I had done. Funny things is - that mud gave a sort of more solid feeling of land than before. make sense?

I still need to go back - after it has dried well and add some of the greens/yellows and oranges in but trying to not muddy it all again.

My name is Dale Cook and I am a mudder.

I think we're all a bunch of Mudders, at least some of the time.

I have fallen back in love with my Cobra WMOs and would like to buy a bunch more colors, so eventually I think I'll try to sell my Artisans, too. So I'm all for a "For Sale" section. I don't know anything about how to set it up though.

Dale - membership is automatic - anyone who's ever tried to paint has made mud Laughing
I've just smeared my latest plein-air attempt around on the canvas to use as a background for the next painting. My mud will be good and dry for next week's attempt.

It sounds like a "flea market" area might be in order. Any suggestions for what we should call our for sale area? As Judy mentioned, any ideas, suggestions are welcome so we can put together something useful and hopefully keep the spam out of it. We'll take it up with Janet and work out the details.

I have to share a photo of where we were today. The Bay of Fundy in the running for the list of one of the top wonders of the world. we were along the fundy trail and it was a perfect day. The water was at low tide. At high tide the water will reah the inner part of the shoreline.

The views are spectacular.

Hello all,
Thanks, Callie for posting my sale of Artisan paints. Dale, I would be shipping from Folsom, Louisiana, 70437. It really is a good deal, half of Jerry's catalog price. I just want to have all the same kind of paints and not take any chances of some colors reacting badly with others, or with mediums. I wish I could find some walnut oil to try. Guess I will have to order it from a catalog. Wet canvas has a swap shop, and people sell there also. I think Flea Market or Flea-Mart is better. Terry

I'm interested in painting my first portrait from an easy demo or video. Does anybody know of a good place for me to start? Thanks,
Dayle

Dayle - Janet put some info about alla-prima painting with several videos (some portrait demos) here:
https://watersolubleoils.forumotion.com/water-soluble-oils-f5/any-tips-for-working-alla-prima-t149.htm
Look on You Tube, there's hundreds of portrait demos (you could also look for artists whose work you like and see if they've posted anything.

Beautiful photo, Dale thumbs up

Had a great show yesterday. I've been putting a lot of my print inventory up for sale since I'm not doing so many shows anymore. Sold a lot and got some new orders. Also sold several prints of a digital painting I did in Corel Paint 11. A customer in July asked if I would paint another wolf painting. He all ready has the two others I had done in pen/ink/watercolor and pastels. Here's the painting. He loved it and so did three other people who purchased a print. General Chat - September 2010 Wolf-p10

The best part is that there is nothing to be allergic to, no scanning or photographing required and no drying time. When I was working on the eyes, I could magnify them so I could see exactly where I was placing the iris and could add the highlights without major struggle. These old eyes really appreciated the magnification.

The only problem now is that I have to buy a new Wacom tablet and stylus to take advantage of all the realistic brushstrokes you can accomplish. Callie and Janet, I finally found the paint program I have been looking for.

This will not replace my regular painting, but is just another addition to the media that I use.

Thanks Dale,
This will come in real handy when I'm traveling so I don't have to unpack all the supplies and set up a place to paint in my very, very small RV. Hope you got one of your paintings done. I took the Adirondack painting with me to the show to work on, but the weather was too "iffy" to dare to do it, but I sure got a lot of great comments on it. Today I did nothing but rest up from the show. Tomorrow I hope to get back to painting.

That's a really cute digital painting, Judy. So, what kind of digital painting program did you decide on?

Hi Dayle,
It is Corel Paint 11. I had the trial version and liked it and then the sale price went on sale even further along with a free great book on how to use it written by artists. It is helping me break way from my problems with minimal backgrounds. I always want to put too much into them. I'm going to try doing a real painting from one of the digitals I did to see if I can apply what I'm learning to actual canvas. We'll see...

Hi everyone! Sorry I haven't been around much lately. It looks like I'll be at the camp a lot until it closes the 15th of October. I'll leave it up to you whether you want to continue with the AHM challenge or put it on hold until that time.

cheers Judy I love your digital painting! I'm glad you found the painting program that suits you. Smile Now I'm really itching to get that program. I remember on the Corel site that they had specials that included the program with a Wacom tablet. I was doing the hint hint thing with my husband when I was looking at it as a Christmas present. lol

I wish I had gotten the bundle with the tablet, but I felt the one I had would work just as well. It works well, but not as good as the new one that is much more advanced in sensitively, angles and more like a real brush Now it is going to cast me about $100 more than if I had bought them together. Oh well, it's only money and you can't take it with you so they tell me.

I realized that I had the shadow under the chin of the mama wolf at the wrong angle so I moved it to represent light from the moon.

I think you could hold off on the AHM for a while. Callie makes them tooooooo tough. General Chat - September 2010 Lol Glas you're back.

Judy,
I love your wolf painting. I have Corel Painter 11 also. I find it very complicated and so far I have only done one painting of my granddaughter which came out ok. I did do something for my priest, which he wants to send out as Christmas cards. I took a photo of a painting of Mary and Jesus which hangs in my church and put an image of our church in the corner with feathered out edges and blended it into the colors in the photo. I don't have photoshop and so I am not used to all the tools and what they do and it seems to be taking a long time to learn. Did you do that painting out of your imagination or did you have some pictures to work with? I bet it would look great in oils. You could get a lot more money for it too. Terry

Hi Terry,

Several things I tried from the tutorials on the web and in the book that came with it "Painter 11, WOW" written by some artists that use the program. This one I did using some reference pictures and then adapting them to fit the picture I had in my mind. I'm tempted to do it in oils, but the majority of the people I have contact with at art fairs here don't want to pay the price for originals, but go with prints. Here in the Adirondacks, most people don't have a lot of money. In Arizona, the good shows are so expensive, that I just don't do them. I don't have several hundred dollars to pay for a show that maybe you sell one painting at if you are lucky.

Oh well, I have fun with my painting, make enough money to keep me in supplies and I get to meet a lot of really great people. That's what is important to me since I am retired. Occasionally, I do some commission work, but that is few and far between.
