Sunshower - first time using Holbein duo aquas 59966_433488360994_535710994_5572785_1308486_n

I forgot to take pics of the earlier stages of this painting. This is about 3/4 of the way through. I painted it on a 20x24 inch canvas. I'd gessoed over an old acrylic, then painted on a reddish wash - can't remember what I used for it. I drew my scene in loosely with a small worn out brush and the Holbein cad green dark. Then I put the trunks and branches in with the burnt sienna and all the patches of light with titanium white and lemon yellow. After that I worked on the darker values, using the cad green dark with a bit of vermilion and also the green with a bit of artisan dioxanine purple. for the foreground I used some vermilion, and dioxanine purple and a touch of the green. Then I put in some of the mid values in the greens - I used lemon yellow with the green and also artisan cad yellow hue with the green, and a bit of white. I put the figures in next, using vermilion and some white for the shirt, my green in the shadows, cobalt and white for the jeans. Some green in the burnt sienna for the darker part of the hair, artisan yellow ochre for the light. I really enjoyed using the Holbeins. alien

Thanks Dale and Judy. Smile

Dale - seeing as this is in Wombat Botanical Gardens, in Australia, I was hoping to see a few wombats on the trail, but no such luck. Wink But we did have a lovely walk.

Here it is completed. I used lots of the whites and yellows in the trees, along with the cad green dark, with a few tiny touches of vermillion. The ground has a lot of raw sienna and yellow ochre, plus white and a bit of vermillion as well to tie it all together. Smile

Nice work, Sophie. I wish I could walk the path myself.

Sofie,

Nice -- looks like it's a warm day yet, a cool place to be on a day like that. Thank you for sharing.
