Using WSOs like the TV wet-on-wet painters -Paintings on my blog

Thanks for sharing. I routinely use your third approach which is to apply a thin film of medium to the canvas without mixing it with paint. I my case, I always use walnut oil rather than any medium specific to a particular brand. It definitely makes the paint go on easier and more smoothly.

Thanks for sharing that, Don. I like the idea of using the medium/oil without the white paint. But it looks like you got good results either way.
I followed Dayle over to the portrait painting tutorial - very well done! I did a painting from the reference photo of the young man in the blue hat, I thought he was a great subject (it's on my website). I love seeing how different painters handle the same subject.

Thanks, Janet! While the TV painters often sell their own products and talk about how their paints and supplies are unique, they aren't really. The basic principles are good old oil painting fundamentals!
