For those interested in painting wet-on-wet like the TV painters (Bob Ross or Bill Alexander), then you might want to visit my blog, where I have posted 4 paintings and a brief explanation on how they were done. Not that they are the greatest paintings ever done, but it might be of interest to some.

Hope this is helpful.

Nice job Don,

Thanks for sharing. I routinely use your third approach which is to apply a thin film of medium to the canvas without mixing it with paint. I my case, I always use walnut oil rather than any medium specific to a particular brand. It definitely makes the paint go on easier and more smoothly.

Loved your blog. I got all caught up in your portrait painting tutorial. Very nice.

Thanks for sharing that, Don. I like the idea of using the medium/oil without the white paint. But it looks like you got good results either way. Using WSOs like the TV wet-on-wet painters -Paintings on my blog 120968
I followed Dayle over to the portrait painting tutorial - very well done! I did a painting from the reference photo of the young man in the blue hat, I thought he was a great subject (it's on my website). I love seeing how different painters handle the same subject. Don, Beautiful paintings! I love trying something new and the Bill Alexander and Bob Ross methods look like they work very well. Thank you for the great post on how to do it with WSOs! Smile

Thanks, Janet! While the TV painters often sell their own products and talk about how their paints and supplies are unique, they aren't really. The basic principles are good old oil painting fundamentals!
