Comox Valley Exhibition Fair Paint out Empty
PostSubject: Comox Valley Exhibition Fair Paint out   Comox Valley Exhibition Fair Paint out EmptyTue Aug 31, 2010 6:59 pm

This past weekend I was one of three artists painting on site at the Comox Valley Exhibition Fair - sort of like a country fair or fall fair with all sorts of vendors booths, animals for show and competition, quilting, jam, baking, flowers, and veggies, hay rides, antique tractor parade, chainsaw sculptures, logger competitions. and a midway with games and rides. We artists painting on site were just part of the entertainment. Wink I was given a 22"x28" canvas and told to go for it, so I looked around and this was the best view of the fair I could find from our location:

People wandered through to the midway and I managed to catch a few of them. My favourite were the twin toddles that I scribbled in as they toddled awkwardly up the hill. I just wanted to get the overall impression of colour and gaiety that the scene evoked. Here's the completed painting:

On the Sunday I was given two 10"x12" canvas boards. I don't like painting on canvas boards but it was all I had so I made the best of it. I decided to challenge myself and paint a tractor, because machinery is not something I'd ever really paint by choice. Wink Here's what the antique orange tractor really looks like:

And here's what I did to it:

I still have to paint the name on but one passerby actually recognised it and was able to tell me the correct make! Laughing

After that there wasn't much left to paint but the sunflowers, so I gave them a go:

I changed them up a bit for the painting:

You sure did a great job painting all of that in one weekend! I think I like the sunflowers best, but you can tell you put a lot of work into the other 2. Great job.

I like the two toddlers. You can just see them waddling along with that wide stance and weight shifting from side to side. Nice job,
