| August 1st ~ the summer is half over! Spent 4 hours painting in the sun at Comox Town Circle today, as part of the Summer Sundays event. I'm tired, but I've got a new painting to show for it. | |

| Sofie, Time sure has flown-by I can’t believe summer is half over. I am sure, like you, you’ve been busy and can’t believe it’s already August 1st! This year in Seattle the weather hasn’t seemed to be as warm as it usually is for the summer. I hear though back east it’s been very warm. I look forward to seeing your piece you have started. How’s your grandson doing – drawing with grandma lately? I wish you well and enjoy painting and the rest of your summer. Dana | |

| Dana, I'm surprised July hasn't been nice and hot in Seattle. I'm not back east, I'm on Vancouver Island and our weather is usually quite similar to yours. May and June were cooler and wetter than usual (especially June) but July has been nice all month here. I'll post a pic of my paiting in completed paitings when I take a photo. My grandson is doing great. He spent two hours gallery sitting with me yesterday, which is pretty good for a four year old. | |

| Just in case anyone thought I forgot the August Group Challenge.... It's up now I got side-tracked over the weekend and almost forgot it! It's brutally hot here, will be at least 100 here by tomorrow. I haven't had my plein-air gear out at all this summer Glad to hear there's still some decent weather out there - wish we could get some! | |

| Hi everyone! Today is the first day in a while that it isn't hot here. We started spending much more time at the camp. Not a whole lot of time for painting lately. My back was messed up for quite a while but not it's a matter of finding the time. So much to do at the camp. Callie, I'll go take a look at this months challenge. I hope I find the time to participate. | |

| After being very frustrated by my computer crashing and not being able to reinstall some of my programs, I started looking around again for a good paint program and found a free trial for Corel Paint. I had tried their Draw free trial but never really got into it. I've spend part of the last two days experimenting with the program and tonight I actually did a painting. I thought I would share it with you. I'm pretty pleased with it. I definitely had to use a less detailed, freer approach to the painting, but I'm happy with it. I almost think that I should paint on the computer first and then do it on canvas. I seem to be less hindered about trying different colors and effects. Any way. I hope you like it. I wasn't sure where to post it so here it is. Judy | |

| I often try out things on the computer before committing to them on the canvas. I'll put a photo of a painting I've just started into Corel Paint or Photoshop and "paint" over it to see what it might look like. It's also easier (for me) to try out stuff because there's no wasted paint or ruined canvas - just hit delete and start over! Judy, your digital painting is very nice | |

| My last art show of the summer - an outdoor show - and wouldn't you know, after having a solid month with no rain at all we get rain! It rained all night last night, and lightly during set up. It was dry for most of the day, but windy - easles were falling over regularly. The weather came in again at closing time so we bundled up our tents in tarps. It's been raining ever since but tomorrow is actually supposed to be sunny so keep your fingers crossed for me. | |

| Judy, I have never heard about painting on the computer -- very interesting...not sure if I understand, but I am sure it is a program that would explain it...when I have more time and energy, I hope to look into it. I like the thought of not wasting paint or a canvas. Hummm...very interesting. Sofie, I hope things went well for you all with the painting and weather....look forward to more of your work. | |

| Callie, Thank you for the website....I will look into it later today, I have company and got up before them to check the forum....which I so enjoy, because of all of you....Thank you. No, I took that picture for a friend and another one which I will show you in just a minute, she's an artist, never sales her work, just loves to paint...she uses acrlyics. She has been going through a hard time and very tired caring for her 88yr old mother who is now living with them, so I have been sending her funny pictures of myself asleep in different places...this one, your refering to, I took after I took the sleeping one it is a reflection of the stainless steal stove in the background (hard to see)-- here a few of the sleeping ones for you, just for laughs: one in my art room, one just after biking back from work, and one in my sewing area....there are several others, but just put these on for fun and a laugh, so you could see what I was talking about....like I said in my profile -- I look for opportunities to laugh and help others see the humor in life....LIFE is so full of challenges and struggles we need to have fun with a little humor....Hope you enjoy and helps you to understand the picture, which I changed a little on my profile and signuture page.... INBETWEEN THE CHALLENGES ARE A TIME OF REFLECTION AND RESTORING. A TIME TO REMEMBER TO LAUGH AND BE SILENT....BUT ALWAYS OPENING MY HANDS & TRUSTING, BY FAITH DO I WALK | |

| That explains it. I was curious, too. We'd never seen a picture of you. I like the one of you sleeping with paintbrush in hand and head on the palette. It is great to have a friend like you. I hope the pictures give her a smile. Judy | |

| Just had a birtheekend and went to a nearby Elizabethan ruin. Kirby Hall. This is my zany wife Jackie doing zany things. Had a marvellous picnic where Queen Elizabeth's courtiers used to cavort. I think it's a fun photo so just had to publish it. Jack | |

| Love the flower in Corel Paint Judy! I've been itching to buy that program I just love the way you can mix your colors on the the palette. It looks fairly close to what real paint can do. I Love it Dana! Jack, I love the photo! | |

| Sounds like a fun way to celebrate your "birtheekend", Jack. I think I've been doing it wrong - as I get older, I've been treating birthdays as less significant events. Following your example, the more years we rack up - the longer the celebration should be - is that how it works? That looks like a fun/interesting place to visit: http://www.english-heritage.org.uk/daysout/properties/kirby-hall/ | |

| Callie. The rules of Birtheekends, which I made up, are quite simple. Your actual birthday can arrive on a day that you don't fancy. So! It gets attached to a weekend. You win if it falls on a Wednesday then you can have Saturday through to the next Sunday eight days. I suppose if you want you can celebrate on all the days. You lose out if it falls on a weekend cos then you are limited to two days. Utter nonsense, but to me that is what humour and happiness is all about. I'm fortunate in having a 'Cadbury' for a wife. Jack I'm now off to prepare a seafood chowder | |

| Judy, I love your flower. Hope this program works out for you. Jack, hope you had a wonderful week. I kinda like Callie's idea that the more birthdays you rack up, the longer you get to celebrate it. I've racked up quite a few. Dayle | |
