PostSubject: 2010 Worldwide Paintout   Wed Aug 18, 2010 3:08 am

This year is the 8th annual Great Worldwide Paintout organized by the International Plein Air Painters. http://www.i-p-a-p.com The event takes place on the weekend of September 11 and 12. Check their website to see if there is an event organized in your area.

I took part in this event last year, locally here on Quadra Island, about a 40 minute drive and a short ferry ride from my home. It was great fun. Artists from all over come together and paint at the same location and get together in the evening for dinner and drinks and socialization. The second day culminates in an art show of all the works done in the two days of painting.

I'm hoping for good weather again this year so we don't have to paint in the rain!

Here are two of the paintings I did at last year's paintout. The third one went down the drain. Wink

Well, this weekend the weather wasn't conducive to this kind of event, but a few of us persevered on Quadra Island nonetheless. Instead of the usual 20 or so artists, there were only 7 of us. We were determined to enjoy ourselves, so we did! On Saturday we painted on Rebbecca Spit - we put up a canopy to keep the rain off.

On Sunday we painted at the Heriot Bay Inn, under the eaves on the Veranda. At 3:00 we held our reception. Here is some of the work produced over the weekend:

And these are my 3 paintings:

Too bad about the weather. It looks like you all still got some good paintings out of it.

What was great about it was knowing that all sorts of people all over the world were doing it at the same time as us too! Smile

There wasn't a paint-out group here, but I joined our local Plein-Air group at a historic area around an old brewery (brick warehouses and the original owner's mansion) - wasted a few panels and had a good time Very Happy
That looks like it was a good time, Sofie. You got some good work done in spite of the weather.

Wow, looks like fun. I did a lot of Plein-Air painting on my excursion this last week....I found that I was chasing the light a lot of the time, I hope I learn not to do that.

I was given tricks to help myself remember where the light was, so I don't keep chasing it-- Frank Serrano shared some tricks at his sunrise class, but I think I need to do more to get it. Also Marcia Burtt, who exclusively paints her pieces Plein-Air helped me also…I took a lot of classes with Marcia Burtt…..although it is difficult to do Plein-Air here in Seattle because of the rain, I am going to try to get out more and just do it -- paint from real life.

Thank you for sharing – I am going to check out that website so I can learn more about Plein-Air in my area.
