PostSubject: Willow Tunnel   Fri Aug 13, 2010 1:26 pm

Just started this one yesterday. It's on a 20"x30" canvas. I covered it with a wash of indian yellow and magenta thinned with odourless solvent. I drew in the trees and path with watercolour pencils, then painted in the trunks and branches with raw umber and carmine deep with a bit of walnut alkyd for the darker branches and added raw sienna to the mix for the lighter ones. The sky patches are zinc white and cerulean blue.

Already a strong composition, I'll check in later to see how this one progresses!

It's looking good. I hope that you are going to leave some if magenta showing through. It give the whole thing such a warm, comfortable feeling.

I can see something very beautiful emerging. I like how you gave the details of the beginning. I would never have thought to underpaint with magenta/yellow. Oils are new to me and I know I have so much to learn before I can find my comfort zone. I keep trying to do landscapes but they've all gone 'down the drain'. Seeing anothers approach is so helpful.
Am truly anticipating the finale.

Oh, Sofie.....It is just looking so warm and is going to materialize I'm sure into another wonderful masterpiece.

I am looking forward to seeing the next steps....I do love your under-painting technique’.

You really are on a roll! GREAT WORK!

I missed taking a pic between the last stage I showed you and the finished pic, but it's too late now. Here it is, ready for signing.

I love the delicateness of the willows and the "light at he end of the tunnel."
