I did the same scene in winter. Hope to get up to take a photo of this site in the next week as well.

You can see how much more depth I achieved in the water with more layers.

It's looking good. The depth is really coming along. In the winter one, you really can't show as much depth because of the icy glaze that is usually covering it. Which season will this one be?

I love the warm tones in the colours you are using - looks like afternoon light in the springtime! Smile

Thanks for all your encouragement. I am loading the original photo and the next stage of my painting. You can see how I am taking some liberties with the colours.

Your colors are a real improvement over the original. Great job, Dale!

Looking at what you have done Dale the foreground seems to be already complete. This is quite marvellous.
It's interesting to see the reflection before the tree has grown

Jack lol!

Love seeing the photo. It shows to what degree you have a fantastic eye for value and color. Your interpretations are always so much better then the photos. Smile

Dale you can't get much better than this. In the more distant water I can see the rings left by rising fish. Must unearth my fly rod.
Beautiful

Dale, this is coming along beautifully. It is so convincing, that if I stand here any longer looking at this scene, I will need my rubber boots!

OK. I am not happy with this one. I realized after I hung it, that i need to add shadows of the limbs crossig other brances on the main tree. will fix it up later

The sky, the hills, brush, distant trees and shore line and the right side -they all are just beautiful. Just about everything comes together in a very nice unity. The colors and values on the water lead the viewer right into the picture. I might or might not put a few more small surface ripples/reflections across the bottom of the trunk of that deciduous tree at the far shore and on the edge of the reflections of the conifer on the right. But it may well be time to not do anymore here.

Now this is very minor and is going to take a lot more to write about than its significance to the painting. It may well be the photograph doesn't show things as well as the painting portrays them. I'm having a little trouble "reading" the middle of the left edge of the painting. I think I see the pond going out of the painting in front of the deciduous trees (good). I'm not sure if the trees are growing out of the water or there is a finger of land coming out into the pond under them. (I'd vote for the latter). I'm also not sure if the conifer branches are in front of or in back of those deciduous trees. Yup, took too many words for a very minor issue.

It is a real pleasure to see your work.
