This is the one which started out as Sylvia. Now re-titled. Mainly happy with it and have decided to do nothing more. On a bit of a roll and have started another. Filling in entry form for the exhibition. Just hope it gets past the selection committee

The eyes definitely are much better and I love the colors you chose for the clothing and hat. Good luck with the exhibit.

OK. This is what I mean about narrative painting. The purple rose is the rose of 'enchantment'. The look in her eyes is not one of love. Could she be an uninvited guest at the wedding of her ex husband?????
I have to be honest and say some of the development of the painting was not deliberate but accidental. I tried to home in on the accident.
This time it seems to have worked.
In the past I have started some paint workshops, but, very early on people made it clear that they did not like the way I ran them. They would bring along photographs and slavishly copy them, every line being exact, every colour being copied exactly. My endeavour to have them develop a work by using imagination met with total failure and resulted in me leaving.
My view being that if they were going to only copy the photograph then stick with the photo and take up playing the piano.

Ha ha, well said, Jack. I can tell you that I never know which way MY paintings are going to go, (right now I'm thinking of the large "Gathering" paintings I did, then redid and redid again) that's for sure.
I paint to interpret, and if good things happen by accident, then they become part of the painting along with the rest of it.

Sometimes the interpretation part of it is just in leaving things out, sometimes it means moving things around or reinventing things. We are inventors and storytellers!
