| This new painting is 22"x28" . I prepped the canvas with a wash of odourless thinner, artisan magenta and H2O Indian yellow. I sketched the scene in with a worn down bush - the darks are prussian blue and carmine deep. the lights are cad yellow light hue and titanium white. | |

| I added some of the the lights in the sky - titanium white and cerulian blue, some more darks - trunks - indian red, carmine deep, and raw umber, and some greens in the trees and grass with cad yellow med hue and prussian blue (more yellow in the grass) and some almost straight yellow for patches of sunlit leaves. I lightened some of the patches of light on the grass with more white. | |

| I like the colours and how the composition moves your eyes in a sweep along the bottom... nice and bold! | |

| Finally got a couple hours to work on this yesterday. I developed the ground and started in on the sky and the trees. Hope to get a bunch more done today. | |

| Hey. You've already got a great painting. My eye was immediately brought to the intensity of the sun in the centre of the sloping field or clearing. Then I drifted to the coolness of the shade dappled with sunlight. I think it could be framed now. Fantastic Jack

| It's finished now. I think I managed to keep the feeling of warm filtering sunlight and cool shade that you liked so much, Jack. | |

| Wow! It really turned out good. It amazes me how you started out with such a fiery red and ended up with such a peaceful, coolly, shaded setting. I never expected this fromthe beginning photo yo took. Judy | |

| Thanks Judy. Surprisingly, a lot of the red tone still shows between the dabs of colour, but it is so toned down by all the green and yellow that it just adds an overall warmth to the picture. | |

| I've looked at this again and I imagine it hanging in the consulting room of someone who is into meditation and yoga. Saying to a student 'imagine yourself walking beneath that tree and feel the varying warmth and coolness of the sun and shade'. It's got a lot going for it. Perfect also for a doctor's surgery or a hospital. It transmits calm and peacefulness. Jack | |

| Sofie, It is just amazing how you go from the red/brilliant pinkish color, to the colors you have and the hint of your starting background color are fantastic to see them peek through this piece…. Love seeing the beginning/start of your painting and how it materializes….very nice. Yes, it does capture the warm filtered light with the coolness of the shade... ... tranquil…..a place I would like to go to, just to be still from the busyness of life and the heat of the day. Thank you Sofie | |

| Thank you all for your kind words. I was quite happy with the way this painting turned out. Dana - unfortunately the nicest gallery I have my work in is closing in September - darned economy! I will have to find a new one. So far this painting has done a stint as part of the set of a musical production set in a coffee shop. I will need to find a good place to display it next. | |

| Sofie, it feels like a spring morning to me - cool in the shade with a hint of warmth as the sun moves up in the sky I hope you'll be able to find other venues for displaying your work. What Jack said made me think of something... at one of the gallery walks here recently, an acupuncture clinic was on the list, he has a large open reception area with big windows facing the street and likes to have original works from local artists on display. | |
