Joyful 38596_418861130994_535710994_5218092_5502998_n

This is the painting I did on Sunday when I took part in the Summer Sundays event in Comox, painting in the town circle. It wasn't a plein air event, so I prepared a pic from a photo of poppies I'd taken a few weeks before. I prepped a 14"x14" canvas with a wash of magenta and indian yellow and odourless solvent. I drew my poppies in with water colour pencils, then went over the final drawing with my coloured art brush pens. The background is rocks, so I made greys using prussian blue, carmine deep, some of the various yellows I was using, and zinc white. The background colour shows through. For the poppies I used Cadmium yellow hue, Cadmium yellow light hue, Indian yellow, and a bit of Cadmium red hue and carmine deep. For the greens I used prussian blue with some of the various yellows. I started my shift off with the drawing done, so the painting took almost 4 hours. Using the paint thickly made it possible to keep painting.

Thanks everybody! This was one of those paintings that was so easy to paint because it was well planned - once I started painting everything just flowed. I love it when it works like that. Smile
