This is the painting I am doing on the cool verandah of my shed. Couple years ago I was in the Lake District and took a photo of a stream winding through a sunlit glade.
There were no ladies at the time but somehow they have appeared.

You always have such beautiful colors and delicate females. I love it.

I love the way the ladies just materialised! Wink I'm looking forward to see how you develop this.

Kopo,

Your work always intrigues me – lovely and the colors are so unique – would you ever consider showing the picture which you are painting from….I would surely enjoying seeing how your eye captures it?

As always thank you for sharing your art and I will look forward to the continual developmental of this piece.

Best Regards,

Loving the colors in this.
Does your wife ever get annoyed with all these women that invite themselves into your paintings

Thank you Judy, Sofie, Dana and Callie.
Several years ago I used to paint and photograph the female nude. My wife put up with it but wasn't entirely comfortable. She's much happier now that they are usually draped or semi-draped.
I didn't realise it until recently, but my method is the same as used by Robert Hagan the Aussie artist. But nowhere near his standard.
With this one I started with the photograph of the location then I have several hundred figure references on the computer and I delve until I find one or some that I like.
I am posting the location photograph taken in the English Lake District. It was a magical spot on a sunny day and thought when I took it that one day I would paint it.

Beautiful scene. Adding the figures makes it intriguing - now there's a story to figure out.

Definitely a magical spot and the female figures added in add beautifully to the magic.

A lovely wooded area where one would expect to find Niads and Driads. Wink

Here comes my progress on 'reflection'. Changed somewhat. The idea for the new figure comes from a painting by Sir William Russell Flint. It's not an exact copy and I've raised the question of copyright with the National Portrait Gallery. As I've taken it as an idea I think I'm OK. If not, further change required. Oh the beauty of painting in Oil.

It's really taking shape, Jack. I really like the addition of the seated figure. You're starting to get some nice depth in the background. What a beautiful scene. Smile

The colors in the background are sure adding mystery, or should I say magic, to the painting. It's coming along beautifully.

Thank you Sofie and Dayle. Many years ago a professional artist acquaintance of mine gave me some advice. I forgot it until recently when I saw some of his work. When he prepares his canvases he determines the colour of the canvas according to the ultimate mood of his finished work. In this case I followed his advice and prepared a canvas for a sunny scene. I gessoed the surface with pink and in some parts of the eventually finished painting the pink undercoat will remain to be seen.

I think that thought is one I might have to try sometime -- seems to set the tone for the piece --- very nice work -- I sure enjoy this painting - Thank you thumbs up

Good suggestion. I very rarely tone my canvas but I do block in areas with undertones as I progress from area to area. I'll have to think about trying this approach in one of my woodland paintngs I'm procrastinating about starting.

Judy -- that is what I also do when I paint, block areas with color as I approach that area.

Also just a side note.....I am so excited today I had a patient of mine offer me his photos on Flickr....and said I could share with this group....I haven't seen his pictures yet, but will look at them and let you all know.
