Filberg Lodge 26712_407643095994_535710994_4930433_6002821_n

This is the painting I've started that i really wanted to have finished for my show this weekend, but I've not been able to find the time to work on it. I got the drawing done a few days ago and today was finally able to begin painting. It's on a 22"x28" canvas which I lightly washed with some sienna and umber and a touch of green - just stuff that was on my palette and needed to be used up. I drew it on first with watercolour pencils and then went over it with my art pens once I had it how I wanted it. I washed off all the water colour lines. I decided to begin with the lodge because it's the hardest thing in the painting. My show is going to be in this building so you can see why I really wanted to have it done on time. Oh well - I can work on it there during the show - set up on the porch. People should find that interesting. I'm just glad I was able to take advantage of my grandson's nap and start painting. Wink

It's beautiful all ready. I can't wait to see how you develop the trees.

Great start Sofie. just watch though, the value of the foreground trees in comparison with those in the background.
Looking forward to seeing it progress.

Thanks for all your supportive comments. Smile Jack - I'll keep the values in mind - just trying to get the canvas all covered first, then I'll adjust some of the colours.

Today I organised a play date for my grandson and got two solid hours of painting in! I think next session I'll start painting the foreground trees in.

Hi Sofie
I am intrigued. Are you painting within your original branches or are you painting over and then restating? If it's the former then I take my hat off to you for it requires extreme patience and delicacy of touch.
I will follow your progress with this work with great interest and I think it is perfect for people visiting your show to see this work being developed.
How about a photo of your show?
Best wishes
Jack

Your color choices for the trees along the two sides a terrific. The whole painting feels so in balance.

Thanks Dayle, Jack, and Judy.

Jack - occasionally I paint over a bit of a branch by mistake, but I don't like to lose what I've taken the time to draw in.

I had another painting session today and have got the trees, leaves and rest of the sky painted in. Now I can add some colour variation where I need it, mottle the trunks and grass a bit more, get the right balance of leaves and sky, and put some highlights in. Paint needs to dry a tad first, though.

Are you saving any details to wrap up during the show? People are always drawn to the artist who is working on a painting.

Great painting! I'm glad I got to see how you work your sky around the branches. I wish I had your patience Filberg Lodge Icon_biggrin
What a beautiful location for your show - maybe someone will want a painting to remind them of their visit to the Lodge Filberg Lodge Icon_wink

Thanks Callie and Janet. Here's the finished painting - I took this pic with my old camera late in the evening so I'll get a pic with truer colour to post in the completed paintings forum.

Can't wait to see the true colors. It looks like it will really be great when not so blue. How did the show go?

Thanks everybody.

The show looked great and went well - lots of people came through. Because of the economy, people weren't snapping up paintings Wink but I sold two little ones and lots of cards and some prints. It was fun meeting all the people and chatting with them.
