PostSubject: Hidden Retreat   Mon Jun 28, 2010 1:36 am

This is on a 36X24 stretched canvas…used a lot of sap green and hunters green for the darks, then I mixed perm.green with yellow ochre for the lighter green along with some Tit.white (Artisan wso) I did use a touch of a new tube I picked up because I wanted to try it, it’s cadmium green light (from Duo wso)…I love this paint, paints smoothly and mixes well with a rich color.

For the pink/red colors I mixed cobalt blue and cad red deep and added some tit. white to light as needed. I worked about 2 hours on this today and last night I painted the background paynes gray on the bottom with some tit.white and a mix of blues with tit.white on the top sky area….

I have a ways to go…not sure what I will do with the door of surprise and not sure if I like it yet. Will sit with it – as I have a long week ahead of me, hopefully I will get to it sometime in the next week.

Sorry its blurry some, my daughter has my camera and I tried to use my husbands....and don't know all the tricks to get it clear on his....I hope to get my camera back soon from my daughter and when I work more on the painting I will send you a hopefully clearer picture with my camera as I know how to take a sharper picture Smile .

This is looking great. Thanks for sharing your color mixing info! The rocks are really well done. What is the Door of Surprise?

Looking forward to seeing the next pic of this

It's beautiful. I love the colors and the depth that you have achieved. Like Callie, I was wondering what the door of surprise is. I see it but I'm not sure what the function is.

Thank you, I painted white in the opening “hole.” I am going to change it to something else....not sure yet, maybe an old fashion circular fountain, a old fashion tire swing with a girl swinging....I am still pondering what to do with it?

I might even take a picture of the painting (which reminds me...I need to get my camera back from my daughter) with the blank/white hole and ask you all what you think I should do?

An unusual concept. But it's a very happy painting. And, I love surprises.

I like the second painting so much better. I was confused with the first. On my monitor it looked like there was something sitting on top of a concrete post. This is intriquing. My solution would always to put some water behind...a flowing stream?

I think that choice for looking through the door is perfect. I love the colors of the whole painting. I am bothered by the floor in the room and the path, though. The floor feels like it is going vertically up from one door to the next. The path needs to be wider in the front perhaps with a soft surve to create distance and to draw you into that room. You did make the stones smaller as they get further away so it doesn't feel so much like a wall as it did at first, but it still needs some more gradual transition.

Judy,

Thank you for your input ….always appreciated….I will work on it some more hopefully soon, just got home from Portland and the traffic was horrendous what usually takes 3 hours, took us about 6 hours one way and going was just as long as coming home. Glad to be home though—I took my sketch pad with me, but not too much time to sketch while I was there. Thank you again
