Not only wonderful portraiture but for me it is the one painting which has had the most profound effect on me. I bought the book 'Classical Painting Atelier' and found within it's pages a photograph of a portrait by Jacob Collins. It is head and upper torso but the simplicity and power of the presentation leaves me breathless. The expression on her face and the stature says so much, yet the impression gained of it requiring little effort must be incorrect. Only with years of experience can such perfection be achieved.
The title of the work is 'Carolina'.
The book is open permanently at that page. Inspiration I hope.
WARNING - she does have one breast bared.
Sorry to have gone at such length.

I think many of us keep favorite pictures nearby for inspiration. I've got a small plein air painting (by a local artist) hanging within view of my painting area. Not only do I enjoy looking at it - it reminds me that often, less is more - so keep it simple and don't overwork things.

The Jacob Collins painting is stunning! Here's a link for anyone who wants to take a look (partial nudity):

Thanks Callie for the link. Not sure there's enough time in the day to brouse this one. Some brilliant work.
Mind boggling
