Holy Family R1-1811

This is the final edition of the Holy Family ( started out as St Joseph). Sorry about the photo, best I could do at the moment, the color is way off due to the lighting. Mary and child are after Carlos Maratta, Joseph and the scenery are basically made up, though I had a couple of photos I used as rough guides. Go ahead and critique the picture but remember the color is way off due to the lighting.
This was done on 16x20 canvas pad using W/S oils through out. Most of the scenery was done wet on wet, while I allowed drying time throughout the the painting. Joseph went through several changes as did the child. Mary seemed to come easier. I sketched the images in HB pencil and did a lot of erasing. The paint covered it well. Total time about sixty hours.

It's beautiful. Mary is looking so loving at the child. You've that captured perfectly. I like the way you did the background. It does not over power the painting. Nice work and worth the effort.

Finally got a good picture with my sister-in-law's Olympia D-540 Zoom. This is a hand held shot with the afternoon sun streeming into my work room, no additional light. I was sitting in sun and the picture was on the easel about four feet away but not in the sun. The color is spot on. My brother put it on their computer and photo shopped it for me and saved it and sent it to me. Guess I will use my sister-in-law's camera to shoot my pictures and then use their photo shop. But I think I will buy her a tripod.
Sorry about the size I copied and pasted and I shouldn't have done that. Use your zoom adjust and cut it to 75%. Linus

Can't see your new photo of the painting, Linus, but I really like how Mary's face turned out in the other shot. You really worked hard on this and it shows!

Thanks Linus - I can see it now! Smile I liked the golden glow before, but it's so good to see the real colours that you used. Well done!

Thanks everyone. Can't believe I took that shot without a tripod. Haven't thought of what to do next, something less complicated maybe. Linus

Thank you for sharing your work, I love the blue cloth which almost frames the baby and Mary.
Mary does have a glow about her -- which seem to show her happy/joyful/peaceful emotions of holding and having him in her arm. Great capturing the emotions in your painting.

Holy Family Holy_f10

Final version of the painting. See Mary's hands and the face of Jesus to see the changes I made. I fixed a couple of other spots you may not notice. I have the image cropped on my site but I couldn't do anything with the lense distortion caused by the Olympus D-540 Zoom.
