PostSubject: Yosemite   Mon Jun 21, 2010 7:55 pm

Here is the beginning of the painting from a picture my son took at Yosemite last week. I've been doing the rock detail with a brush, but I think I might try some of those small painting knives I got for the challenge. They would be really good for all the crevice lines.

Alan, I love your umbrellas. You are brave to do so many people in one painting. I look forward to seeing your progress.

Judy

You are making great progress with Yosemite. I love the sky and background structures! The foreground mountain looks kind of mysterious and "alive"!
I'll be checking in to see how this one develops!

Wow Judy what a great start! It looks so dramatic! What colors have you used so far? I love that blue!

Thanks Janet,
The painting is 18 x 24. I've used cobalt blue and white for the sky and then a cad orange to the blue for the gray I have also used paynes gray for the darker crevices. I'll probably do some glazing with blue and blue violet once I get details done. There are green pine trees and a very dramatic surprise which I won't tell you about untilit happens.

Here's an update on progress. the surprise is still not in it. Besides adding the beginnings of the pine trees, I also added primrose to the clouds and parts of the mountains. I also added cobolt washes to the mountains.

Is that because of the warp in the picture from the camera. When it is finished, I promise to crop out the warp.

Lol- thank you Judy.....I needed a good laugh! (warp...should have been wrap my mind around it-funny thing is I always preview my notes, but not as well as I should) If you only knew how much I needed a laugh.....last night I spent most of the eve in the ER with my husband got there around 4pm and home around 12:30PM. I'm beat.....he has a severe infection, along with pain which he got mountain biking a week ago, calf’s double the size….no surgery right now and hoping none at all….lots of IV antibiotics and oral ones too, leg up, and watching it closely. Thank you for the laugh – crazy life we live here, full of challenges and that’s why we paint and do those things which give us an out to enjoy….maybe I should work on my storm picture….it might get a good over haul --- I might be in the right mood for that, lol. No, wasn’t sure that I was going to paint this weekend after a long week and last night, but maybe it would be good therapy.
I love this forum! Thank you again, Dana lol!

Sorry to hear about your husband. I hope things are better today. I say a prayer for him tomorrow at church. It never hurts to get a little extra help. Judy

Is that half dome? It's looking fantastic! Are you going to put some rock climbers on the mountain face?

I don't know if that is the name. I only know that my son was standing at glacier point at Yosemite when he took it. No rock climbers but good guess.

Yes, I live near Yosemite and that is definitely half-dome. Love the picture and the painting.

Here is the finished painting. This hawk actually flew right into the field of the picture. it couldn't have worked better if he had planned. If it was me, planning something like that usually results in the tail of the bird being on the right edge of the picture. All that is left for me to do is sign it.
