Colorado Mine painting

Here is the finished version of the painting I have been working on in WIP. The original is on stretched canvas 24 x 30 inches.

I think I might highlight the trees building and rocks a little more with some more opaque paints. Working on the black gesso definitely holds brightness down when you are using mainly translucent paints. I used mainly zinc white in all my colors. I'm going to have to use some titanium white and hansa yellow for highlights to bring them up.

So.. th is is almost a competed painting.

Wow Judy you're painting is lovely! I've noticed the same thing you pointed out regarding using the transparent paints and black gessoed canvas.

Thanks Sophi. I talked to the photographer the other day and it is not a mine, itis a mill which makes more sense. It is the Crystal River Mill in Colorado.

I wanted to paint that from the moment I saw the photo. I was really lucky my friend let me have a copy, since he sells his photo.

You are having the same problem we all had when we started...spending hours on the forum...addictive but fun. Most of have finally modified our addiction and try to curb the amount of time we spend.
