About Blogging

I've just set up a blog at sofieskapskiblogspot.com. I'm planning on discussing the inspirations for my paintings and the painting process on it. How many of the rest of you have blogs? How do you get the word about your blog out there and attract readers?

Sofie, your Blog looks terrific. My blog isn't anything special. I just created it to have somewhere where my family can see what I'm up to. I think the ones I've seen that are successful are ones that offer information on the painting process. Another thing is to have new content on a regular basis. Add the link to your blog whenever you have the opportunity. What you probably want to think of is when someone does a search on the net will your site show up at the top.

I have had a blog for just over a year now. I average about 35 hits a month. The largest number comes from Squidoo articles I have written which have links to my blog. I also do a keyword search so I can put words in the title and content that will attract search engines.

It is a slow process, but the word does get out. When I only had my paintings posted with no real content, I very rarely had anyone go to my blog unless they knew me. Have discussion about painting techniques and what inspired the painting is a good idea.

I never thought I'd have one, but while working on my website (still not done ), I had a moment of insanity and stuck a little blog into one of the pages. Just the thing for a non-writer like me! But I'm thinking the ever-changing content might help get the site noticed... one of these years. It's at the bottom of this page:

I looked at you site and blog briefly but not long enough to give an opinion. I'll get back to you on that.

I love the avatar you have on the blog and your writing has a very personal touch. I also like the way your regular site is broken down into galleries. Great job. The paintings are terrific, too, especially when grouped together like you do on your home page.

Thanks for adding the link to my post, Judy, and thanks also for all the kind things you said about my blog and website. Writing is something I love to do, but since I've been painting full time I've had a hard time finding the creative energy to do both. I see writing about art on a blog as a way to keep up my writing, as well as share my art with a wider audience.

I went to your blog, Judy, and found it full of great information - very nicely set up. I can see you put a lot of thought and effort into it.

Janet, I like how you are focussing on your challenge pieces in your blog.
