We were discussing Atelier Interactive Acrylics in another thread and when researching shadow and light I came across this video regarding Atelier Interactive Acrylics and found it very interesting.

Wow!!! You've really put out some great information today, Janet. Because this video uses the Interactive Acrylics, it seems to me that the techniques on this video could be used with WMO's portraits. There are 3 parts to this video, to complete the entire portrait. Very useful. Thanks. Dayle

Dayle, you're so rite that the techniques could work with water soluble oils. Good point! I spent most of the morning getting lost on the internet and once I started on the Youtube videos I almost forgot that I wanted to paint something today. Sooo educational but extremely distracting.

Thanks Janet, That video was great. There is so much to learn about tonal paintings which I am just getting into and this sure shows it well. I've never been one to paint to rapidly and freely. Maybe once I get home, I'll try some of that in the challenge like Sofie did.

I was told that I could post acrylics under this thread. So here goes. This is work in progress of a vintage Bentley rallying in deep snow with a sunset sky in the background. I am enjoying the experience of working with Atelier Interactive but it isn't something that can be picked up immediately. Firstly they're a bit more expensive so I've decided that in future I will do the initial stages of a painting with cheaper acrylics then finish off with Atelier. This one is on canvas and it seems to me more difficult to apply the paint so for the next one I will prime some heavyweight watercolour paper. See how it goes! The colours are brilliant.

Jack, about a hundred years ago when I used to paint with acrylics, I really loved the way they handled on Illustration board. It's thick enough that you can stand it up on an easel and it doesn't warp if you wash thin paint on it.
Looks like you're racing off to a fine finish there!

I'm struggling a bit with the interactives. At the moment, for England, it is quite hot in my studio. The acrylics are drying up very quickly on my palette even though I am spraying them. The result is that bits of plastic skin have transferred onto the painting. Not too happy but I will persevere.

Hi Dayle and Janet I'm classifying this problem as an act of nature. It's on par with the Icelandic volcano grounding planes. With me it's combatting the heat of the sun. In England now it can be cold one day and blazing hot the next. Oh! where are those halcyon days of my youth when every day was perfect?

I feel your pain regarding the weather. Just when I thought spring was here we had snow to contend with. I hope you get some decent weather soon.

The heat in the studio makes the interactives unworkable. Answer is to use them only in the evening when there is no sun on the studio roof. Even though I mist regularly a skin forms and then bits come off onto the brush. It's a shame, cos the colours are so brilliant. Anyway here's the update on the Bentley. I'm off with Jackie now for a weeks holiday in Hastings where William the Conqueror landed in 1066. See you soon.

The Bentley looks fantastic! I'm glad you found a solution for the heat, even if it may be less than satisfactory for you. Maybe they'll work best in the winter. I really get upset with oil paints in the winter because they take sooo long to dry. Thanks for the information.

Jack, The painting is coming along great. I was wondering if you have tried using a wet pallet to help keep the paints moist.
I use one for my open acrylics and that works really well. When I'm done for the day I just close the cover and the paints are still moist the next day even in Arizona where it really gets hot and there is no humidity.
Have fun on your holiday.

Dale, I watched it last week without any problem. They must have noticed all the views and changed it so it is by invitation only.

That video did have an issue. I replaced with another video that gives even more specific information on Atelier Interactive. Dale, Thank you for letting me know!
