... in beautiful, rural Norfolk, England. I'm not from the UK, but moved here last Winter from Raleigh, North Carolina, where I lived for 40 years. I find myself incredibly inspired to paint the astounding countryside around Castle Acre, but have struggled with the learning curve of watercolors, as I had to leave all my oil colors behind when I came over. The other day, though, I finally bit the bullet and ordered 13 tubes of the Artisan colors, along with some thinner and medium, and am looking forward to giving them a go. I love painting in oils, and can't wait to get out with them into this area I'm blessed to live in, and enjoy some serious plein air painting.

OK, that's the short intro. So I'm here to take advantage of the great pool of experience, and see what everyone else is up to, and generally enjoy the community of others that have made the switch to WMOs.

My wife is from the UK. I met her in NC when she was teaching there through an organization called Visiting International Faculty. Late last year, an excellent opportunity opened for her to work with a school in the same town as her parents live (Swaffham). Her son also lives in the relatively nearby city of Norwich, so we both jumped on the chance to come. The winter was rough, but Spring is here now, and I've been traipsing all over the area around Castle Acre, sketching and scouting locations. There is no shortage of things to paint, that's for sure!

The weather still tends to be chilly at times, though hopefully it'll be consistently warmer soon, and I can spend longer -- and later -- hours out of doors. I will definitely post some stuff as soon as I get the mediums and thinner in hand and get to work. (Have to order everything on-line, as I can get a much better rate than buying in the shops). I'm new to Water Soluble Oils, so hopefully there won't be too much of an adjustment to be made from regular oils.

What a great situation to be in! We've got a few other Brits here, so you'll be able to find out who is best to order from over there. You'll find all sorts of info about paint brands, mediums, etc... in the water sol. oils sub-forum.
