| Does it make much difference which brand of walnut oil I use? I know most of you are using M. Graham Walnut Oil, but it isn't available at Jerry's Artarama or ASW. They both carry Maimeri Walnut Oil and Charvin Extra Fine Walnut Oil along with the Lukas Berlin WMO's. I'd rather not pay separate shipping charges if one of the other brands are okay. Thanks for any help. | |

| I know Judy uses the Walnut Oil so maybe she'll have more to add. I wouldn't think that their would be that much of a difference from brand to brand. | |

| I've only used the M. Graham, but maybe Callie has used other brands. I can't see where there would be much difference as long as it is pure walnut oil.

| Any artist's quality oil is fine. I've even used walnut oil from the grocery - Spectrum brand (no additives). I mainly use the M. Graham walnut alkyd, but I use the plain walnut oil when mixing regular and ws oils to "rinse" brushes in. | |

| Charvin Extra Fine Walnut Oil is what I use, and I am one satisfied customer! I put some in a little dropper bottle, and have good control over how much I use. | |

| Thanks Susan,
The dropper bottle sound like a good idea.

| How does the fact that these mediums are not water soluble affect your painting process, if at all? Do you avoid the use of water? If you clean out a brush in water while painting, would the oil bead up on the brush if you didn't dry out the brush completely? Any affect at all?

| I usually use several brushes if there is a need for not contaminating a color. If the brush all ready has color on it that has been mixed, I just wipe it off real good before going into the similar color. Wiping it with plain walnut oil also helps between similar colors. I reserve the soap and water clean up for the end.

| I wipe the brush with a paper towel and rinse in water and wipe again. I have never noticed beading. | |

| Same here, I rinse the brushes out in water. I have one of those Silicoil jars that has the springy coil in it to wipe the brush on. The oil doesn't bead up. | |

| No, the oil can't bead up because it does not come out into the water, and there is so little of it in the paint anyway. It basically is wiped onto the canvas! But I don't hesitate to rinse my brush in water for color changes, and the color does come out. It's easy and simple. I must say that I have a bar of soap on a dry dishcloth that I keep by my water and I work the brush on that too between rinses and when changing color. | |
