PostSubject: Christ the Warrior   Fri Apr 02, 2010 8:41 pm

Water soluble oils, mostly done in the traditional style. The three main elements were drawn on the Canva Paper first, then outlined and painted lightly in acrylic, then covered with masking film, then the scene was painted, then after drying the masking film was removed and the three elements painted. Considering I have no training whatsoever and that I am legally color blind, I think it is pretty good. The photograph doesn't doe the original justice.

I got the idea from Psalm 109 where David relates the words of God the Father in relation to His Son. " The Lord said to my Lord, sit at my right hand until I make your enemies your foot stool...

the last two stanzas:

"...He ( Christ ) will judge the nations, he will heap high corpses; he will crush heads over the wide earth.
From a brook by the wayside he will drink, therefore he will lift up his head..."

Feel free to make your own painting based on this one, just don't down load it and make it your own. If anyone does a credible piece I would enjoy seeing it.

I must apologize for misleading everyone into thinking I was painting a Roman Centurion, I only wanted to protect the idea until I had got it done.

I like this one a lot, Linus. You've gone into a lot of detail on the horse and Christ and it definitely shows. I also know that once you have a photographer take pictures and load it that it will look even better. I remember the difference it made on the WetCanvas with a picture you took and the one from the photographer. WOW, you're really improving!

Thank you all. It was a real project. I thought I was finished tinkering but I noticed that the left theigh was too hefty and the right heal was too pronounced and a couple of other little things. So I addressed these issues the best I could and will post an improved image to my sight one of these days. I think the big problem with my photo is that I had too much light coming from the left and from above. I won't be able to take it to the photographer because one this size would cost me nearly a hundred bucks. So I will have to settle for what I can do myself.

Looks good, Linus When you get the adjustments made and have another photo ready to post, if you would like, send me a copy, I'll "fix it up" for you (lighting, contrast, size...) so it will be ready to put on your website.
I think you did all right with your last photo! Here it is with a quick levels adjustment and the background stuff cropped out:

Ed, it looks great. It seems tome that I remember you saying that it was going to take you a few months when you first started. It's amazing how once the idea and structure gets set, things just seem to fall into place on a faster schedule Nice work.

Callie, be my guest. I hope to have the new image up in a few days. I did a little more tinkering and started taking photos under different lighting conditions. Hopefully one will be acceptible. The painting is 28x18 which is too large for the scanner my regular photographer uses. Another photographer has one which will do the job but he will charge me a $100.00 min, so that is out. I will just have to live with what I can do.

I will say, it was a great help to have the sketch to work from. Without that I could never have done the figure or the horse ( which is just so,so, a little too small for me at this point. I did a really nice acrylic poney but it was a larger figure.)

Callie, your touch up does look much better. P.S send me a P.M. and tell me how I can get a photo to you and how I can upload your touch up to my site, assuming I decide to use it. I'm at a total loss as to how to do those things. I have made final adjustments and am still trying to make a better photo. Hope to be done next week some time.

Quite an accomplishment from your first concept of a man getting water from the creek. Very well done.

I wanted to show this image because Callie touched it up with her photo shop software. It really looks great. To be honest, the colors are better than the original. Lot's of talent in our group. Great work Callie.

It was just a minor levels adjustment - the important change is getting rid of the distracting stuff around the painting so it looks good on the website.

Yeah, cropping away the background really makes the picture stand out nicely. Smile
