General Chat - April 2010

I've been quite a lurker here lately - but I wanted to pop in to say thanks for the birthday wishes earlier this month. I've been helping my daughter with childcare issues as she just had a shift change at work that left her in the lurch. Hopefully I can stop in more often when it settles down.

Glad the tornado's missed you. That is one thing I worry about as I get ready to travel across country. I remember one year going through your area and having missed a tornado by one day. The motel next to where we stayed had roof damage from the day before. Scarry. I'm just glad we were a day late.

Judy - I hope you have good weather when you come through, but this time of year is iffy. After the storm passed we had brilliant sunshine and a bright blue sky, now it's dark again and the rain is blowing in the window

Debra - Good to "see" you again! Show up when you can; we'll still be here!

I take the southern route this time of year, because I stop in Florida and the Carolina's to see family and friends on the way back.

Where in the Carolinas do you go, Judy? I live near Asheboro, about 30 miles south of Greensboro, NC. If you come through the area, let me know and we can have a visit!

Linus, copying the masters is fun and very educational. I'm looking forward to see your copy.

Callie, I'm glad you're safe and you didn't have any damage. Sound really scary.

Debra, I'm glad you stopped by. I was wondering what was keeping you away. It must be nice to be able to spend some time with your grandchildren. I'm looking forward to my daughter having children so I can spoil them.

I have two sisters that live outside of Greenville, SC, and then I go up to Ashville and then north to 81 and then north up 77.

Well. I am back to the land of the living for a short time befor my trip. We had a VERY dissapointing art show in that there were fewer attendees than ever before and most people didn't sell anything. My mother in law came and wanted to buy Fundy Trail if I didnd't sell it to anyone else. I didn't sell anything but had such great feedback that i am very encouraged. I do have someone who wants to buy my St george painting when it is complete - i painted during the show so I was standing up the entire time. My feet and legs were so tired. Anyways I will post some photos. Time for bed.

Judy, sounds like you'll be passing by about 4 hours away from me. I've been going through Charlotte, Greenville, Spartanbug, to Atlanta and back 2-3 times a month. Maybe we will pass like ships in the night!

Since the schedule is so fluid and unpredictable, I tend to become discombobulated with my commitments at home and it can get stressful. I'm currently in Atlanta, heading back home tomorrow. I hope to be back in time for an Art Guild meeting tomorrow night.

Dale, a friend and I had a similar outcome at an outdoor fair held out in the country - good feedback and a fabulous setting. But people were there to view horse competitions, not buy art, so no sales. I did get to test out with great success some ideas for keeping our artwork from blowing away in breezy weather. Now I have a game plan for another outside venue we'll be doing next weekend in town.

I heard that some of the other artists plan to paint at the next year's venue as well.
What we did find was that a lot of the visitors also paint - they were there, not to buy but to learn and compare.

Dale your paintings look great. Art shows are like that - most people come to look at art without the intent to buy - sharing your work is important and a show with a lot of positive feedback is still a successful show.

I got home from my trip to Melbourne on Sunday and I'm slowly getting back in to everything. I didn't have much internet access while away, so I wasn't able to drop in here, but I'll be posting about me trip soon and will post some of my new paintings that I did in Oz.

It was getting a little quiet around here with people being away or celebrating the arrival of Spring. I hit the road next week so I'll probably be a little quite for a few weeks.

Judy - I had a very carefully packed suitcase -= the paintings were all nested one in another - it was like a 3D jigsaw puzzle.
