Attending workshops and transporting your paintings Empty
PostSubject: Attending workshops and transporting your paintings   Attending workshops and transporting your paintings EmptyTue Nov 23, 2010 9:18 am

My wife and I like to read American Artist magazine, and fantasize about attending painting workshops.
Then we count our cash, shake our heads and go back to the studio. We have begun to think about workshops again this week.
Maybe, just maybe.

But here's the question. Have you attended a workshop that was far enough away that you had to fly to it?
How did you transport your wet paintings home? I suppose this question could apply to driving by car, but more directly to flight.

And, any other comments or words of advice regarding workshops?

To answer my own question, I have learned through other sources that the people who run workshops are accustomed to shipping canvases to the participants' homes when the paintings are dry.

Thanks for sharing your findings. Apparently, no one had ever really run inot that situation.

I read an article by an artist (don't remember who), but he used alkyd oils on panels when traveling. He would stack the panels with waxed paper between them and pack tightly in a box (so no shifting/sliding).
These are handy:

I'm not finding the other carriers I've seen at most art supply sites - they're cardboard boxes and come folded flat, so easy to pack, then pop open to use.
OK, here's one:

I guess the next question is about packing paints, brushes and thinner to go on an airplane. We're pretty clear about it NOT going on carry on luggage, but I wonder if people ship their supplies separately these days to keep the luggage costs down. hmm
