PostSubject: Doing Dishes   Mon Feb 08, 2010 11:54 pm

This is a painting I started in the fall but finished recently for my show. It is painted on a 26x20 canvas. I used a pinkish orange wash on the canvas that shows through. I can't remember which colours I used for this. I used quick dry medium when I painted the girl and the curtain. When I filled in the rest of the kitchen, I didn't use any medium. I painted the window frame and mullions recently because I wanted to wait for the painting to be completely dry - my first attempt they were supposed to be quite white, but picked up too much colour from the underpainting and turned out pink in tone. I decided on the creamy colour instead of white in the end, because it was warmer. This is my kitchen, but I admit to placing the window strategically to place this scene inside it. Wink

Another great "slice of life" there! I'm really enjoying the window peeping
The warm color wash worked out very well, her (your?) sweater is very nice - has the impression it's reflecting some color from the curtain. Over-all, it (the warm under-tone) gives a nice contrast to the cool, "bluey" whites.

Wonderful painting, Sofie. I love the softness of the color of the mullions. Pure white would have taken away from the painting as a whole. Everything feels so all together.

Judy

I thought I'd responded to this earlier today, but my post seems to have dissappeared. Thanks Judy. Smile I'm glad you agree with me about the colour of the mullions.
