cheers Our first Art History Mystery Challenge. Thank you David for the insperation for this game! Smile

The Art History Mystery Challenge

Welcome to our totally disorganised art museum! The challenge is to help us identify all the masterworks in our virtual museum. We'll post a painting to get you started. Can you name the artist?

Clues to the artist's identity will be added every 24 hours until we have a winner, then the next painting in our collection will be posted. Feel free to use any resources at your disposal to help in your search. Challenge winners will receive a shiny award badge that we will add below their profile image. You will retain this award until someone else wins the award.

The AHM Challenge is open to all forum members, not just ws oil painters, so join in and have some fun with us!

If you would like to host a AHM Challenge painting; please send a PM to the Challenge Moderator Callie to receive instructions and notice when to post your painting. Be prepared to check in frequently while hosting a challenge!

Unless this is a trick question, her name is signed at the bottom left.

OK I know I should be working but

Mary Cassatt was an American artist (1844—1926) who captured scenes of everyday life in her charming, impressionist paintings, especially the social and private lives of women. In this painting called "The Cup of Tea,” two elegant ladies sip their beverage in a room decorated with Victorian-style stripes. The pink stripes are so dominant in this painting, they almost become the subject.

A thought I had about games such as this is like what I've seen other boards do for guessing magazine covers. They treat it like a jigsaw puzzle and show sections of the image until someone finally guesses correctly. That might be better than cropping an image or blurring out the signature.

Ok, my internet crashed after my last post.

David, I love the idea of puzzle pieces. I'll try to incorporate it into our next one. Starting out with the puzzle pieces and moving on to the clues if no one guesses after all the pieces are assembled. Thank you for the great idea!

David, for now we'll stick with the old format until we can get everything ironed out with the idea of using puzzle pieces.
