Don't buy it! I and others have returned our copies. We were waiting for months for this book to come out but were sorely disappointed by the quality of the printing when we received our copies. I have all of his books and they're all great. This one was going to be even better. It's a large format, very thick and the images are large on the page. But the color is off (too blue) the sharpness isn't there and many of the images have way too much contrast. The darks are much too dark. So much that details are lost in the darks - literally. Very very sad. Hopefully there will be another (corrected) printing soon. At $75 soft cover we deserve better. Richard's paintings deserve better too. |

| Thanks Tommy for the warning. It is too bad when something good turns so bad.

| Thanks for the heads-up on that! I love Schmid's painting style. I would expect the book/printing to be just about perfect - wonder how this happened? Will it be possible to exchange the bad copies? | |

| Yes you can Callie. I phoned Stove Prairie Press and they were really nice. They sent me the return postage for the book. |

| How disapointing. Thank you for the warning! I placed an order with Stove Prairie Press for the Alla Prima book and a few others. I've been wanting to buy the Alla Prima one for a while. Thank you for the link it's very difficult to find. Good to hear that you were able to return the book which was the reason I went ahead with the order. | |

| I've heard many artists refer to the Alla Prima book as their one book they couldn't do without. I can't wait for it to arrive. | |

| Has anyone bought his DVDs yet. I was looking at them and I'm tempted but at $75.00 it would be nice to know if they're worth the money. | |

| Janet I've got Schmid's 'Painting The Landscape'. It's a terrific video. I think it's well worth the money. I also have Jeremy Lipking's portrait video. I love that one too. If you get it make sure to play it with the commentary turned on. |

| One point about Schmid's videos aside from the obvious. His love for the craft of painting, which comes out in the video, is infectious so there's that added element. Pretty cool. |

| Tommy, I'll look up the Lipking one and probably start adding some of the Schmid ones to my collection. Thank you for the info! | |

| I hear they're going to do a reprint of the landscape book. Molly Schmid wasn't in on the proofing it seems. Fingers crossed. |

| Tommy thank you for keeping us updated. It would be great if they reprint it. BTW the books I purchased were great. I really love that Alla Prima book and I finished reading it. One that I'll probably reread several times. | |
